Iceland short trip
 

Hi All...
My itinery in Iceland is as follows:
July 31 11:00pm -land Reykjavik Aug 3 depart Reykjavik 3:00pm
No expectations at this stage as Iceland was a last minute toss at the end of a bigger trip. Thinking about doing Golden Circle...some off road driving appeals to us.
Figured stay between airport and Reykjavik the first night?....looking for reccos along the Golden Circle Route and where to stay for the second 2 nights.

You don't want to spend any time in Reykyavik? We love that place.

I don't recall on either or our two most recent dips into Iceland (2016 and 2014) seeing anyplace to stay between the airport and Reykyavik, or at least anyplace that looked hospitable. But maybe I was just fixated on looking at lava out the bus window.

We spent 5 days in Reykjavik but if I were to go back, I would've taken a 2 day tour to the glacier lagoon. We had 3 excursions booked but 2 were cancelled due to bad weather and volcanic activity so have a back up! We also stayed at an airport hotel near KEF but that was out of necessity, not desire.

We slept 7 nights in Reykjavik at the Canopy Hilton. Loved the location and the ease of walking to restaurants, bars and cafes. We did day trips out of town and there isn't much out of town in the way of hotels and restaurants. We drove all day to one area, and there was a gas station with a restaurant and that was town! So I recommend staying in the town and doing day trips on the Golden circle and to other parts.
Had a great time in Iceland, a very friendly safe place to visit in this world.
