Iceland self drive tour

I will be going to Iceland for 7 nights and 8 days beginning of July. Is anyone familiar with a company called "Road Trip Iceland"?
They have a popular trip called The Iceland Circle that was of interest and we would do a self guided tour. Hotels, breakfast and car rental are included.

I'm not sure which tour you are looking at - can you post the link?

Yes,

and the other one is:

same but 7 days

well the second one [Nordic Tours] has you circling the island in just 5 days, as the other two are arriving and leaving days. i know that they list a load of activities every day, but the reality is that you'd be mostly driving.

At least the first one takes a bit longer.

Have a look at the distances you have to drive every day and ask if that's how you like to travel. if you do, that's fine.

in fact Iceland is well suited to a linear trip [albeit one that goes round in a circle] because of the distances between the things that are worth seeing, but these are too fast for me. Nordic's South Iceland tour looks better paced, but still has you seeing lots of different things.

Thanks annhig, I really don't want to be in a car the whole time! I personally like to visit small towns, take in beautiful scenery but also like to get to visit with locals.
I will look at the South Iceland tour.

zanne - we didn't find that we had much contact with locals bar the usual waiters/waitresses etc.

if you find a way to do it, let us know!

This is what we want to see and do, can someone put something together?
At the present, we arrive on July 4 and have a reservation for 2 nights in Reykjavik (that can be changed), we leave the island in the morning of July 11

Geysir; gulfoss; vatnajokul; somewhere we can take a whale trip and watch the birds (puffins); Reykjavik; maybe the town of Vik; some hot springs.

Zanne - what time on 4th July do you arrive and where from? [will help us to know what you can hope to achieve on that day, whether you will be suffering from jet lag, etc.].

Most tour companies in Iceland have self drive tours that give you multiple itineraries to go off of based on the number of days you're looking to do. My friends and I used Guide to Iceland which is also a good company to use for self drive tours- https://guidetoiceland.is/self-drive-tours I talked to a few companies and noticed that they do a lot more with locals than other ones which, like you, was important to us. We did a 5 day one but you can do a tour for up to 14 days. Travel is the biggest market for Iceland so you'll have a lot of options to research. Most of the tour companies will let you know what a typical tour is like and you'll definitely be able to get a feel for which you like best.

We used Guide to Iceland for our self drive tour in Iceland: https://guidetoiceland.is/self-drive-tours

We got quotes from a number of companies and their price was by far the best price that was offered to us. The accommodation they got us was really good and the car was almost brand new (1 year old). Their itinerary was perfect and they also gave us a lot of great tips that we wouldn´t have known of without their help. They told us about the place the locals love to go, which was something we were looking for. When we ran into some troubles with a flat tire we were able to call them at 11 at night and they sent us road side assistance, without any extra costs. That was amazing! I highly recommend you contact them. They´re a great example of how friendly and nice Icelanders are. Have fun!

We did the 8 days tour (called iceland Express Extended) with http://www.anothericeland.com/ and everything was just great! Including a very good price.
