Iceland plans, need help filling in the gap and suggestions

We will be in Iceland during Dec 24-30 (sad to miss NYE!). Based on what I've read on this forum, we think self-driving around southwest Iceland would be good for us. Can you please review the base outline of our time and suggest any changes, additions, etc? We are a couple in our 30s, both have experience driving in winter conditions and know the weather can be unpredictable. We want to have flexibility built in but also have a decent outline of the trip. Our primary goal is to see the northern lights

Dec 24: arrive in KEF at 6:30AM!! passport control, customs, and pick up the rental car.

Blue Lagoon (which opens at 10AM) or head straight to Reykjavik to sightsee? It's so early.

Also need suggestions on Christmas dinner. I know eating out is expensive, but it's X-mas and we are open for anything. Sleep in Reykjavik.

Dec 25: sightsee the city, or day trip? Sleep in Reykjavik

Dec 26: drive out to golden circle. Sleep near Gulfoss, Selfoss or Hella area? Hoping to end up where we can hope to see the lights.

Dec 27: drive to Vik, stopping to see Skogafoss? We are also open to short hikes if possible??
Hope to see the lights. Sleep in Vik.

Dec 28: day trip to Jokulsarlon. Along the way, is there a way to see the ice caves? Do we have to hire a tour company or is this something that we can do on our own? Is this too much to do?
Hope to see the lights. Sleep in Vik.

Dec 29: open? not sure to stay in Vik one more night or start driving back towards Reykjavik?

Dec 30: Flight out is 5:00PM. We could do Blue Lagoon this day if not the first day. open to suggestions.

Thank you so any input and suggestions.

re: blue lagoon, it is close to the airport so the suggestions of going either on the way from or the way to the airport are right. that being said, i enjoyed going before my return flight, because it's so relaxing, and you are so clean after! it's a wonderful way to start a flight! lol. re: restaurants, i enjoyed dill restaurant ($$$) laundromat ($) and an indian restaurant, whose name escapes me. enjoy iceland!

As a local I would recommend you to contact the places you are planning to stay at, especially out in the country whether they are open and their restaurants. Many places close over the wintertime so you should contact them prior to arriving here.

If you are visiting ice caves you need to have a guide with you. I would recommend only one night in Vik especially as it is winter time and not much to do And yes take the blue lagoon on your way to or from the airport.
