Iceland Huts

Greetings from Michigan! Does anyone have contact information for renting huts in Iceland? I'd particularly like to stay in one just northwest of Hveragerdi under Mt. Hengil. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Kay,

I looked this up in the Iceland guidebook that I own and it says:

"Mountain huts are located mostly in uninhabited areas. Orange painted huts are for emergency use only and are located on mtn. roads and along uninhabited coasts. They are not for general visitor use.

Huts in recreational areas of the highlands are owned and maintained by these hiking clubs and are open to members and non-members for a fee. It is usually essential to book in advance.

Touring Club of Akureyri, tel. 462-2720, [email protected] www.ffa.is"

Hope this helps.

Thanks DeeDee! I have been in contact with the organizations you posted. They are quick & courteous with reponses. Turns out, however, that the huts in the area we're interested in are all privately owned and not rentable.

I appreciate your help!
