Iceland attire

I'm traveling in Iceland for @12 days in mid-July. From what I've read, the weather will be a tad chillier than where I live in steamy GA. Does it ever get warmer than 70 deg.? And does the wind/cloud cover affect the temp. so it feels more like 50? Don't know whether to take winter clothes, or what would pass as early spring-late fall clothes here in GA. Is it too cold for sandals? Looking forward with great anticipation to all the geographic wonders of the country!! Thanks for your help.

One of the reasons I love Iceland in the summer is 'cause it's NOT like the weather at home (hazy, hot and humid.) It is, in fact, pretty much "fall" feeling for east coasters, usually in the fifties or sixties, some rain likely, but also gorgeously blazingly blue skies and bright sunshine. Your best bet, of course, is to layer your clothes. I'd say no to the sandals; in fact, depending on where you'll be visiting, a pair of (gasp!) hikers or sneakers wouldn't be a bad idea. It's pretty much a comfort-ahead-of-chic destination. Be sure to take a rainproof jacket of some sort; depending on your own comfort level, that should do you rather than needing a winter coat.
Don't forget a swimsuit for those geothermal pools and the Blue Lagoon!
Have a wonderful trip!

I just returned from Icleand on Tuesday. Both Monday and Tuesday were gorgeous, sunny and around 70 degrees. The day before was sunny and 60-ish. Saturday was cold, rainy and only in the low 50's. Icelandic weather changes quite a bit, but the scenery is simply jaw-dropping. Enjoy Iceland and bring layers. I know someone who wore sandals and regretted it. I second the wind-water proof coat and make sure to bring a bathing suit!! If you don't make it to the Blue Lagoon, you can try one of many swimming pools in Reykjavik, geothermically heated of course!
Reykjavik is very hip, so if you're planning to be there for a couple of nights, I'd pack a little black outfit.

I was in Iceland last July and I wore a London Fog coat/raincoat almost all the time. When I wasn't wearing it it was wrapped around my waist. If you take any boat trips you will need it. Also any trips to higher elevations. Temps were as low as mid 40's at night so the mornings were cold before it warmed up. Only a couple times did it warm up to 70 . I even bought a pair of gloves , I didn't bring any because I did not think I would need them. But went whale watching and my hands froze. I did wear them a couple of times. I'm in Florida so this actually was a great change for July. Just be prepared.
