Are Icelanders friendly toward American tourists? I've gotten conflicting info.

Iceland is a very intellectually rich culture. We found the people to be friendly, but not they are not frivolous (of course I am generalizing grossly here, but you get the picture.) The "conflicting info" may have something to do with the people you are getting it from and how they interact in such an environment. Consider a society where a quarter million people can keep five daily newspapers in business, an average of one person in five publishes a book at some point in their life and chess matches may be televised. It's different! But friendly? Yes, I think so.
