Iced Tea in Italy?
 

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I don't drink coffee. I drink Iced tea in the morning. How would I order this is Italian>

te fredo....iced tea

con granita limone if you want some nice shaved lemon ice in it.

Italians aren't big iced tea drinkers and I've never seen it served in restaurants unless it is in a plastic bottle. If you go into a bar that usually serves coffee in the morning and asked for a te fredo, you will likely get a bottled product which may or may not be chilled. In a hotel, if you order tea in the morning, you'll likely get a cup of hot water and a tea bag. You'll need to ask for some ice in addition to pour your tea over to chill it.

If you ask for iced tea, you'll most likely get something resembling Snapple or Nestea prebottled crap. Not true brewed tea that is cold. If you like unsweet tea, you'll be doubly SOL since most, if not all, of the prebottled stuff is presweetened.

Probably the only way to get it would be to order hot tea and a glass of ice. But you likley won't get enough ice to cool down a piping hot cup of tea.

Perhaps you should try to broaden you horizons a bit and not expect food/beverages to be exactly like back home (said in the nicest possible way ;) )

Iced tea and coffee are not big in europe. A couple of years ago my beau saw iced coffee on a cafe menu on a hot day and ordered it - and it turned out to be a coffee ice cream soda.

If you can find a Starbucks or similar you may be OK - but otherwise this is just something that is very rarely served (except bottled variety).

Iced tea is really catching on in France these days.

Your post brought back a funny memory from years ago. I was traveling in England with my parents, who took me along to do the driving. It was in 1976, when England, and London esp., had a real heat wave for many weeks.

Anyway, in a restaurant, my dad ordered a "chilled" lager, thinking that in a big city (London) he might be able to gget something other than warm beer/lager. I happened to be sitting facing the service area. I saw the waiter draw a glass of lager; he then spooned some ice into a cocktail shaker, pour in the lager, shook it a few times, strained and served it. It WAS chilled, but nothing like home.

During the same trip, I read in the paper that many bars/pubs did order lager that was chilled but were only alloted a certain amount a week and they were running out each week. The problem was that American and Canadian tourists always ordered it cilled, and it was becoming popular with the English consumer, too. Times were changing--we were in England several years ago, and had no trouble getting our lager "chilled."

On the subject of the post: I was in Italy as recently as March, and I don't remember ice tea on any menu. Hope you have some luck finding something to drink, tho. Ciao!!mhm
