Ice skating in Paris

also in Monmartre and again in front of the Hotel de Ville where the rental "House" is shaped like an igloo.

That sounds like so much fun!
When dln and I are there in January we're hoping to go skating!
I wonder if the lines will be really long....
Have they had this before?

cigalechanta Dec 1st, 2004 02:23 PM

The Hotel de Ville has been before. You'll only pay for skate rental. The others will also have an entrance fee.

Mais oui, marcy and I are definitely on for ice skating in Paris in January!

Yes, the rink in front of Hotel de Ville is being constructed as I type :) I think it's scheduled to open on December 9th.

Just came back from Paris yesterday and as we stayed a couple of blocks away from Hotel de Ville, I got to see the rink slowly taking shape, including the igloo-like structure. Looks like there will be live music there as well - something resembling a band stand was added a couple of days ago.

cigalechanta, many thanks for this post. We'll be there with our children over New Years and had planned to go skating at the Hotel de Ville, but this trumps that! (Although we may do both).

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. Now, if someone can tell me whether or not there will be fireworks on 12/31...

That sounds fabulous! But that's what I thought when we went ice skating in Montreal on a Christmas vacation....I broke my wrist! I've never broken a bone before!! I've skated since I was about 8! WHAT A TERRIBLE WAY TO START A FAMILY VACATION! But fortunately, my arm was set in a nice cast and I was given wonderful drugs and didn't miss out on much as we continued our trip. I would check out the quality of the skates available for rent (those were pretty chintzy) and maybe go skating once at home before you leave (how long has it been????)

uhoh_busted,
Oh no! That would be a bad thing to have happen on vacation! The healthcare system in France is something I'd rather learn about by reading about it, not by first-hand experience!

However, I do believe that if don't take any risks you miss out on a lot of fun, so I'm ready to go for it!;;)

According to "Paris Notes" there will be a rink in front of Gare Montparnasse as well.

It's just that mine works more slowly. Missed it the first time around.
