ICE (Intercity Express) train version?
Hello fellow travelers! It's been a very long time since I posted here. My sister and I are off to Switzerland and Germany around the beginning of May of this year 2019. We're taking the ICE from Zurich to Frankfurt and then transferring to a local train to go and visit the city we use to live in. My question is this: does anyone know which version of the ICE runs from Zurich to Frankfurt (or from Frankfurt to Zurich)? I know there are quite a few versions of the ICE train, but it seems that the ICE1 version is the one that goes between Zurich and Frankfurt. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks in advance for any info!

You have, of course, checked the rail site at bahn.com?

Yes www.bahn.de/en shows only ICE trains on the direct no change routes but what difference does it make - ICE 1, 2, 3, 4 versions have some tweeks but basically are all great and similar. Can book your own tickets on bahn.de web site - neat discounts if book early enough to get them - book all way to your final destination. For lots on trains - www.seat61.com - awesome tips on booking own trains online;BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

bahn.com doesn't tell you which version on each run that I've ever seen.
I can't bet my house on it, but I think it is ICE 1. ICE 2 trains only run in northern Germany AFAIK, between Berlin going west. And ICE 3 or only on some really high-speed routes within Germany and to some bordering countries like France, but not to Austria. They don't have that many ICE 4 trains in operation, and I think they are all within Germany, say Berlin to Munich, if to foreign countries, I think it would be on real high speed rail lines such as to Strasbourg. |
What difference does it make? Curious as to concern?

I think it's probably ICE1, but some ICE3/ICE-T enter Switzerland too I think.
The site I used to use to tell me this by train number went down. |
Nope, it's back up!
It'll be an ICE1, see http://www.ice-fansite.com/index.php...hnis-ab-dez-14 ICE 76, 74, 72 and so on are all class 401, which is ICE1. Data is from 2015, but the facts won't have changed. |
