ice hotels
I saw a beer commercial on TV featuring an "ice hotel". Do these really exist? Is it just a tourist thing? Where are they and what is it really like to stay at one?
Yup. There is one someplace in Scadinavia. I think it was discussed on this forum. You might try a search for ice hotel :) I'm curious about the ... ummm... facilities :)
The Ice Hotel is in Sweden...address www.jukkas.se. The English icon is on the upper left hand side.
SFowler-
That would be one "um facility" where you'd definitely want to take "um facility"-seat covers....
Don't forget a washcloth LOL :)
Thanks for the url Lid! Be sure to find to igloo panorama thatmoves around the room. Everything IS made of ice... the chairs, the glasses in the bar... There are chalet accomodations for the wimpy:) I didn't see any "um....facilities" but I haven't looked at the ice sauna yet!And it's on 99 USD or so for igloo accomodations! Shall we make this a fodorite excursion in 2201?
SFowler,
Is that 2201 sic or 2001? 'Cause I won't be able to make it in 2201--I have plans.

Note re: washcloths--you have to thaw them by the fire.
I drink my Scotch neat...how am I ever going to get THAT? And what do they use for ashtrays? I bet they don't have sprinklers.
Do they give you bedroom slippers with cleats?
No problem, Elvira -- your whiskey will be straight -- it's YOU that will be on the rocks!
Lori, can you tell me what LOL means?
My dad visited this hotel last year...

One word of warning, when they say take a winter warmth sleeping bag what that should mean is take one suitable for artic expeditions...

Apparently it is so cold that a large number of guests end up disappointed as they have to stay in the neighbouring regular accomodation instead when their sleeping bags dont measure up...

Kavey
