Ibiza Spain

Hi! I'm thinking of visiting Ibiza,Spain next year. I have been given a guidebook which states that Ibiza is a relatively new island, emerging out of the sea after an underwater volcanic eruption in 1972. It also says that tourism accounts for 70% of the island's economy and that the main industries are fishing, pumice mining and handbag theft. The islands airport is reported to have a runway consisting of volcanic cinders and airplanes land every 8 seconds......Can this be true?

All I know about Ibiza is that MTV in Europe films a lot of spring break type specials there and it appears to be THE party place for the young crowd.
