basingstoke2 yes, a travel candle. To add atmosphere to a room (usually at happy hour time while we're having a glass of wine while getting ready to go out) and to provide a pleasant scent, especially in a room that allows smoking (we don't)

RM67 - Bubblewrap to protect delicate purchases.

dperry - I was getting worried - what with the clips, tape and naked flame from the candle, I was imagining some sort of portable torture kit! 8-)

I'm going to Paris. What is the "Magic Cream" I have to know!

Two things I've found very useful that haven't yet been mentioned. First, a small roll of clear duct tape. Useful in a luggage emergency, sticks to your foot over a small piece of gauze when your sandals have rubbed a hole in your foot and bandaids just get rubbed off in about 10 paces, helpful when you want to mail stuff home, holds up the hem of skirt or pants that get torn. Also a couple of clothes pin to hold closed hotel room curtains or hang up clothes to dry.

I bring a small photo book, so I can keep my family's pics on the nightstand.

You'll need to find Maitaitoms' trip report to get all the details about 'Magic Cream', but basically it is a pain-relief topical cream a doctor brought to him that helped with his injured knee. So get those other thoughts out of your head.
