Are there places anyone won't visit anymore for any reason ?

Germany. Found people generally unfriendly and arrogant. Only draw for me is great music. Ditto for Austria.

Brussels - boring boring boring!

Love everywhere else I've been in Belgium though - and Belgians are great people.

But after 3 times in their capitol, I'm not stopping there again : )

I try to make lemonade out of lemons and generally enjoy myself anywhere I go -- because I simply love to travel and love new experiences.

As I've said recently Carcassonne was a huge disappointment, wouldn't go back there. And I'd make a point of avoiding Lourdes if for some reason it ended up on my route --the saddest place I've ever seen. I've been to Florence twice and glad I went, but I wouldn't go back, the city itself turned me off somehow, despite its great treasures. But otherwise, if you buy the tickets, I'm ready to go.

The posting about Germany holds some truth. There are things to see, but with limited time, money, etc....there are so many other places I would go back to....Italy, Spain, Scandinavia. Not a put down on Germany.......but I fell in LOVE with other places.

I don't think I have been to a place in Europe that I would never revisit. However, after many trips to Western Europe, we decided that we love France, Italy, the UK and Spain. Would love to go to Greece. No desire to return to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands or Switzerland and not much interest in returning to Scandinavia. When I think of what I love about the places we return to often, food, climate, scenery, people and cultural experiences come to mind.

Yes - the Hotel Duse in Asolo,Italy! The bed was loaded with disgusting bedbugs!! It was truly repulsive to wake in the night & find them.
Asolo itself is charming, but beware of this hotel.

Well, Tat, since YOU are the one who wanted to "share" information how about the place that you won't visit anymore??????

Virginia: So sorry to hear about the bed-bug problem at the Hotel Duse in Asolo. My wife and I stayed there about 12 years ago, and had a favorable experience...a solid 3-star value in a wonderful town. But a lot can change in a dozen years.

I don't know if there has been anywhere in Europe so horrible that I left in a huff. I guess Munich was less than I had hoped for. And 6 days in Dublin is about 4 too many.

I was very disappointed with Madrid and would not return unless absolutely necessary. I loved all the other areas of Spain we visited but to me Madrid was not very Spanish - had very little atmosphere at all - big, loud, dirty, hot, tall builldings, trash in the streets and a very limited number of things to see and do. All the disadvantages of New York on a really hot summer day (my most unfavorite time of the year) but none of the benefits.

Naples-dirty, creepy. Stayed with locals and travelled with them and still wouldn't go back.

I agree with nytraveler about Madrid. Except for the Prado, I never did find anything to like about it at all. I found it dreary, dirty, and with far too much petty crime going on.

I'll never go back to Mazamet, France, either. What a miserable town!

And as much as I enjoy traveling in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, I never enjoy my encounters with the local people there as much as I do in the warmer climes. Austrians, in particular, seem dour and stiff to me.

All 3 were quite boring for me. I'm pretty much done with northern Europe (but I LOVE Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague). I'm now concentrating on Med countries and looking forward to my first visits of Venice, Barcelona, Seville, Florence, etc.

Regarding Germany and Austria: Are those of you who find the people unfriendly and arrogant referring to shop/restaurant/service persons, local citizens you meet on the street, etc., or all people in general?

I have found most people in Germany wonderful and friendly. I guess I'm in the minority because I have always found most people in France (and Paris) friendly. It could be my approach and attitude.

Aix and Colmar will never see me again.
