Management Hours:
Monday 8 am - Friday 3:30 pm to allow for all religious Sabbaths.

There are no changes to room assignments. Your room has been booked prior to you ever knowing you were coming here.

You will need to purchase a new Metro card. Dollars and credit cards are not accepted; if you haven't built up enough karma credit from your previous location, we will downgrade you to a....lower floor.

Please don't complain about the food. Any religious/health restrictions have already been taken into account. If you don't like your vegtables, please see Marie Antoinette of "let them eat cake" fame for a new menu.

Yes, Customs has a no exception policy to the "you can't take it with you" rule.

To avoid looking like a tourist, please make sure you board the correct shuttle. We have only two locations, and if you get on the wrong one, some staff members will automatically send you on the one "down there" for stupidity.

If you have been issued a ticket in error, you will need to go to the ticket counter. Please be advised that you only have 15 minutes to make a change, otherwise the doctors on Earth will have a helluva time explaining the mix-up.

Is it rude to share the main course in a restaurant?

Will hell have ice machines?

Can I wear shorts?

How can I not look American? (look, surely Hell will be populated entirely by Americans? )

Here's my tentative itinerary. Please let me know if I'm being realistic:
Mortuary 3 days, Church visit, Cemetary stopover one day, Purgatory two months, Heaven or Santorini--the rest of the time. Should I take my passport?

Sorry, one more question--what guidbook do you recommend? King James? Torah? Koran? Or can I just read the writings of Mary Magdalene?

Nina...."Do they speak English up there?" Surely you mean down. Obviously, I am going to need a Streetwise Map.

Which airline would I take? I have only heard of the Pearly Gate airline, is there any other airline?

If I have to take the Pearly Gate airline should I buy my ticket now or wait until the last minute when I have to fly? Which way would be the least expensive? Do you Fodorites think the best fares are now or do you think the fares would go down in the future?

Do you think I can get a reserved seat if I buy my ticket now?

What is their carryon rules? How many checkin bags can I take, what maximum size do they allow and is there a weight limitation?

Also, are their FA's kind (you know, if the coach restrooms have a looooong line will they let me use the BC or FC restroom?) In otherwords, are the FA's darling angels?

Should I join the Pearly Gates FF Club, just in case I am thrown on another flight of theirs that flies to Hades? Guess not, I probably wouldn't be flying again would I so FF miles wouldn't really do me any good. Or would I get enough FF miles from the first flight to upgrade to BC at least for the second flight (just in case I have to take that flight, heaven forbid!)

Thanks for all your help in advance dear Fodorites, you are all angels, even you little devils!!

Hi annw, from what I understand not only shoulders and knees have to be covered but our Ira said everything in between has to be covered too! Can you imagine? Uhm, btw, I don't know if our SF black will work, probably not a "good" color for upabove if you know what I mean and if we end up down below I would imagine black clothing would be covered with soot 24/7..the ashes from all the fires you know!
Maybe for this trip pastel colors would be the best? Just a thought?

Oh, Scarlett, thanks for posting the link. I've heard references to the Hell thread - but had never read it. What talent on this board!

Hi Loveitaly; remember it's not the heat, it's the humidity! (Remind me to pack flat-iron for hair.) And you're right; pastels might be more "pc" (above) but likely to be the worse for wear (down below). Note to self: include a small spray bottle of Febreze.

Anyone who has traveled a lot in Europe has been asked for directions by one of the natives--no matter how he is dressed.

It happens to me all the time and it is quite satisfying when I am in a position to give one of the natives directions.

Ah annw, if I am fortunate you and I will be on the same "trip", I am no good at using a flat iron on my own hair (I am such a klutz) but you could flat iron my hair and I could flat iron yours, you think?

About "down under"..no, no, not referring to you folks in OZ or NZ..maybe a bright red print outfit would work annw, something with a grey in the print..not my style or yours but perhaps that way the ashes would look part of the outfit??

Obviously this wardrobe problem is going to have to be thought out in great detail. If we only knew what the actually weather/temps would be, that would be such a help!

Okay, it's all over now. This is the cleverest and funniest series of posts I've read in one thread by multiple posters.

The issues involved in planning such a journey are numerous in extreme, given all the unknowns. It would appear that once having "passed", one is unlikely ever to return to give an update, likely because of the difficulties in meeting the 15 minute...ahem...deadline in changing one's ticket.

One can theorize that there are two completely different types of weather patterns, depending upon one's final destination. Therefore, in true Fodorite tradition, it is advised that one dress in layers. Not unlike travelling from Tahiti to Moscow in December, shall we say.

Red and white seem to be the most versatile colors for such a journey. This begs the question, therefore, of how to do laundry in the sink without causing the garments to bleed. Up above, one might assume, there is drycleaning, but one shouldn't count on it below. Of course, one could also assume that if one is above, they will have no need for the red, and vice versa.

Of equal concern is the airfare. However, Fodorites should remember that if there is one place to splurge, it is on one's final journey.

I hear they are extremely strict about having the necessary documentation. One should bring two copies of one's death certificate, as well as the receipt for the final resting place on Earth. If you cannot produce the latter, Customs will not permit you to enter, lest you cheated the government out of real estate taxes on your last, and final, home.

The best map I have been able to find is in the British Museum, near the Rosetta Stone. It's behind several layers of glass. Needless to say, there is only one copy, and if you attempt to pick it up before you leave, it is likely that the guards may hurry along your trip (if they are armed.) A good second choice is the Da Vinci Code.

Correction: The Da Vinci Code is better as a second choice than a first, but is never a good choice for anything (other than propping up a wonky table).

Should I pack an exdtra copy of the death certificate in my luggage? Or should I just carry my death cert in my hidden money belt? Or do you think they will ahve a safe where I can leave it?

LoveItaly, I think we are ironing out the wardrobe, but the *comfortable shoes* question remains. I'm assuming I can't wear stilettos over those cobblestones, I mean hot coals, even though "the locals" probably get away with it. Somehow Mephisto sounds like the right choice,
