I want to see Greece, but the Greece I picture in my mind with the white mountain top houses.
Hi:
We travelled last year on a cruise, and stopped at Katakolon and Athens (among others). I didn't see the Greece I had pictured in my mind. I was thinking of small quaint islands, where the pace slow, the beaches turquoise and calm. What am I looking for?
Thanks
Ana

I went to greece last June, I was in Mykonos & Santorini. These areas are best seen in a calmer state in May & early June. Mykonos has those white mountaintop houses that you are referring to!!! This year I am going to the Ionian islands which are greener. Mykonos and Santorini are very dry, but the brown of the ground & mountains look amazing next to the Aegean. Santorini has the most amazing scenery I have ever seen!

In all modesty, I think the Greece you imagine is pictured and described on my travelogue page

The Greece you are looking for is actually Bodrum, Turkey. Although I thought Santorini comes close to that look also. Where it misses, Santorini is still so spectacular as a sight, that it matters little if it doesn't match your original expectations.

We were in Ostuni, italy last spring -on the east coast between Bari and Brindisi/ Wonderful old whitewashed town on a hill with narrows walkways and funny little cafes stuck away and a city wall. Take a ferry to Brindisi from Greece and train to ostuni. Alborello is another fun town near there

I think both Mykonos and Santorini fit the picture in your mind; these islands have building regulations which ensure that new structures adhere to the specs set forth, such as white bldgs with predominately blue trim (perhaps another color, too). The hillsides indeed look like travel posters!
