Thanks to all. I reserved a twin room at the Hotel Monge (5th) for 98 euros per night. It gets great reviews on Tripadvisor, and I am thrilled that it is less expensive than I was willing to pay. It is a few minutes walk father than I would have preferred, but the area seems nice around it and we are not adverse to walking!!!

I think you will be very happy at Hotel Monge. The metro is around the corner (if you have a ticket) or a couple of blocks down, where there is also a market a couple of times a week. (Lovely foods and pashminas there last April!) Julie (owner at the desk) speaks English, but her husband Michele, who serves the breakfast, does not. Their croissants and bread are very fresh, and if you are not a drinker of French coffee, they are happy to serve you tea or chocolate instead. Enjoy!

I also found 1 other hotel in the 5th called Hotel Central Saint Germain at around 120 euros in September.
It is greatly located near Odeon Metro stop or Saint MIchel RER.It is a 3 star hotel, very clean, nicely decorated, very comfortable beds...and AC!
