RonZ, corrected link for Cornell Hotel: http://www.cornellhotel.com/
I had forgotten all about that hotel. When we lived in San Francisco, we checked it out for friends coming to town. It looked like a nice place at reasonable rates for San Francisco. Very European type hotel.

Yeah, mine is receding so much it needs re-seeding; but like you say there's no discount.
I look like being in KL when my next cut is due in a month's time. I get in on the 23rd March and then have four weeks roaming around Malaysia and Southern Thailand.
Because my travel companion has never been there, we'll be going over to the east coast of Malaysia and working our way up into Thailand, with a side trip to the Perhentian islands. From there back through Hat Yai and Penang.
Maybe you will get to read about it on the Asia board.

We visited Normandy in 2002, and in 2004, Lorraine. Both times we were able to stay out in the country at places listed on either the gites-de-france or logis-de-france websites. Instead of staying in Bayeux or Caen, for example, we stayed at a 400-year-old farmhouse near Villers Bocage, surrounded by apple trees and horse pastures. Our hosts were wonderful, and we found a little pizza place in Villers Bocage where we dined twice. As I recall, we paid less than 40 Euros for the two of us, including bkfst.
For our trip to Verdun to see WWI sites, we stayed in Marre, just about 9 km NW of Verdun, convenient to all the places we wanted to visit. Again - our accommodations were great, at 48 Euros per night (plus 8 Euros per person for bkfst).
I'm trying to find whether Germany and Austria have listings similar to the gites- and logis- sites. They are outstanding.

I like Sawday! Yes, Rural France can be a huge bargain. This father's day, I treated the husband to Oysters and wine at one place and next door to the main restaurantfor the main dish. This was very expensive. We could have dined at one of the top places in France with a far better meal for less than here.
