I recieved an 18 inch garden gnome for christmas !

He has a red hat and pants and a blue coat. He is too heavy for my carry on. How am I going to take hom around the world?

Send me a cashier's check for USD $25,000 and I'll take care of all the heavy lifting and logistics for you.

Easy-schmeezy!

Could you get to Paris and then leave him in an instant photo booth?

Have him cremated and carry him around in an urn.

ici, you need to buy him his own seat. (At least he won't talk your ear off when you want to read during the flight.)

Dress him up in white sneakers and some Chico casuals. Don't forget the money belt and he just might make a great (if not somewhat stoned) travel companion!

I'm sure (and indeed hope) you are not being serious about this! If you are, one wonders what friends you have, smash it or leave it somewhere where it cannot cause offence!

If you are going to take the gnome around the world, you will cause great consternation with the security people at the airports. I know! I bought a hedgehog made out of cement (or similar material, also heavy) at the Chelsea Flower Show in May 2003. It was really cute and about the size of a very large grapefruit. I put it in my carryon. At Heathrow I was pulled aside about 2-3 times for this "thing" to be examined. It seems that the density of the thing was like a bomb so it looked really bad on the x-ray machine. At the last checkin spot for United, they even called over an expert who knocked on the hedgehog and turned it over and over before putting it back in my carryon. Other people in line were very much amused by this whole thing. And I was busy explaining that this was a garden ornament!!

So good luck with your gnome. And don't forget your hat!

Are there pictures? I'd like to see this famous (infamous?) gnome. Don't hide the beauty from us!

Margo.
Maybe we should buy violin cases for our garden ornaments. In another thread janeg claims to carry an uzzie around the world in one.

So far he has been a shy little fella. We are hoping to expand his horizons however.

Don't take him to France. The Gnome Liberation Front has been very active there of late.

Certainly tell your gnome to avoid France.

I've found the story about the Gnome Liberation Front at
Http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3353841.stm
or
http://tinyurl.com/2kdfm

Since 1997, its members have kidnapped more than 6,000 gnomes. The nastiest incident was when 11 gnomes were found subsequently hanged under a bridge. They left a suicide note "When you read these words, we will no longer be part of your selfish world in which we serve only a decoration." , but how do we know that it was suicide?
