I think I've figured out how to fax a restaurant in Italy - I put in the 011 code (from Canada), then the country code etc. But I need to get a confirmation back from them ...exactly how do I tell the restaurant (limited English) how to fax me back? Any Canucks out there who can help me???

Add something like:

Prego trasmettermi la vostra conferma dal fax.

Then put your fax number in this form:

00 1 (your area code)(your number)

I thought Canada's code was 1 so why would you have to precede this by two zeros??

I believe that from some telephone systems "00" is to get an international line. More and more, this seems to be written "++" and then the country code - - where "++" means "whatever you need to do in your country to get an international line".

00 is international access code in Italy (and in the rest of EU, IIRC), the equivalent of 001 in US or Canada.
