I need someone to second this
I like visiting France. I like the people, the food and I love the wine. However, I wish they would get rid of the bedit and install ceiling fans in their hotel rooms!!!!! Anyone agree?

norween Aug 8th, 2006 10:15 AM

What is "bedit" ?

saps Aug 8th, 2006 10:16 AM

What value does this post have except to start an arguement?

If you don't like the hotel facilities stay elsewhere.

PatrickLondon Aug 8th, 2006 10:16 AM

Do you mean "bidet"? I don't think a ceiling fan would be much of a substitute, if so.

steviegene Aug 8th, 2006 10:19 AM

Im curious.... does anyone (american) actually use the bidet?

briggl Aug 8th, 2006 10:20 AM

The bidet isn't hurting you in any way, and not many hotels anywhere have ceiling fans.

bookchick Aug 8th, 2006 10:22 AM

The bidet and the ceiling fan, while both highly useful items, are hardly interchangeable!

What good is a bidet on the ceiling? Funny picture though.

steviegene Aug 8th, 2006 10:25 AM

Also, I have to ask a question I have always been curious about. When we were in Italy, there were these strange contraptions in the bathrooms...which i didnt think were bidets, (but maybe Im ignorant). They were shallow toilet shaped things with a "faucet" with a swively head. But the water poured out, like out of a sink. I kind of thought bidets squirted water, these gushed water. What was it?

wally34949 Aug 8th, 2006 10:27 AM

The reason, you silly people, is that Air-Conditioning is not that popular in France and and ceiling fan is something that I could use on a warm night. A bedit is something I trip over walking to the toilet in the middle of the night.

wally34949 Aug 8th, 2006 10:30 AM

Has anyone ever used a bedit? or is it bidet? I just jump in the shower.

SeaUrchin Aug 8th, 2006 10:36 AM

Well I think it would be painful to substitute a fan for a bidet! eeek

norween Aug 8th, 2006 10:38 AM

But a bidet is more usefull to soak your socks than a ceiling fan

starrsville Aug 8th, 2006 10:39 AM

I'll second it as long as I don't have to sit on the ceiling fan.

SeaUrchin Aug 8th, 2006 10:40 AM

You can tie your socks to the ceiling fan to make them dry faster!

willit Aug 8th, 2006 10:41 AM

Jumping in the shower doesn't really do the job of a bidet.

Handstands in a shower might.

suze Aug 8th, 2006 10:42 AM

hey wally- you should try out the bidet.

CRAZY4TRAVEL Aug 8th, 2006 10:44 AM

It is bidet and it is quite functional. It is so you don't have to take 5 showers a day to feel squeaky clean and oh so refreshed. Water is not an endless commodity so it makes sense to me.

Besides...I have heard that there are other functions that many Fodorites have admitted to using the bidet for such as washing socks and feet...a ledge for shaving legs and I even heard that you can add a few buckets of ice and is a wine chiller.

CRAZY4TRAVEL Aug 8th, 2006 10:46 AM

SeaUrchin....LOL!! That's a wonderful idea.
