I need input on using Delta Airlines Buddy Passes

A friend has given me a pair of Delta Buddy Passes, which I would like to use to visit Istanbul, then return from Athens. Has anybody here had experince using these passes for international flights?

I used to work for United. Buddy passes hold the lowest status of standby. It can be very iffy. It is the responsibility of the employee who gave you the passes to explain the ins and outs. Also, with United's buddy pass fees, it's as much or more as buying a discounted confirmed coach ticket. If it's not critical that you get on the flights, business class is very nice once you clear the waitlist.
