I NEED HELP FIGURING OUT WHAT (and WHERE) this BUILDING IS IN THE UK.

This probably isn't it, but does your dream building look like the Science World sphere in Vancouver BC (built for the Expo 86 world's fair)? Here's a pic... http://www.phototours.bc.ca/images/V...iencewld9A.jpg

If it's over 7 years ago, is a perfect sphere, has an escalator and is in what Americans call an urban setting (which we'd regard as suburban, but let that pass), it's not Britain.
It sounds like the kind of nonsense the French adore. Look round the Futuroscope them park site.

Micklosh is right I think. It's the Natural History Museum entrance in London. Do an image search for Natural History Museum London and you'll see the photo just as you describe it, Atlanta. It's not a building. It's inside the building. The escalator goes through a rotating globe.
Correct?

what about the at-Bristol centre in Bristol (near welsh border)? Can't find a decent picture, but check out this site:

it may not be old enough

Another possibility, though again no escalator, is the Geode IMAX cinema at La Villette in Paris. www.lageode.fr

Gardyloo,
YES! It looks very similar ... but that isn't it. (I was in Vancouver last year. - I forgot about that place)
No, it wasn't in a "theme park"
No, it is not the natural history museum
and flanneruk, I certainly didn't mean to offend you with my "American" termenology. Here "suburb" are inhabited districts located either on the outer rim of a city or outside the official limits of a city and "urban" is a big city ... I realize definitions change from country to country - but I was in a hurry and wasn't thinking clearly enough to use universal terms ... I'm sure the next time YOU do the same thing, I will let it slide
As far as this thread...it is time to let it "rest in peace" Much to frustrating and I don't think I'll ever figure it out. It isn't the end of the world.
Thanks for trying to help.
