I need help deciding ASAP!
Hi! I'm going to be in berlin on the 16th and will be leaving budapest on new years day. I was wondering if Berlin -> Prague -> Munich -> Vienna -> Budapest would be too rushed? I don't mind dropping a city to make more time. To help, I am looking for good food, nice architecture, parks, and historicla landmarks. Thanks!

Parks in December? Doesn't make much sense. Drop Munich, it would be quite a detour and spend more time in the other cities.

In two weeks probably for most folks -figure a travel day between each leaving two days for each Going by train and overnight trains will be the fastest - especially in winter. A more logical routing IMO -Berlin-Munich-Prague-Vienna-Budapest. If you leave Munich out you save a lot of time. For lots on trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. |
You save about 5:30 hours by dropping Munich. .

Unless you ave been to any before I would do 3 or at most 4 major cities in 2 weeks.
Have you checked out YOUR must sees in each city (and surroundings) to see hoe much time you want to spend there. (Much better to build from what you want to see/do than just pick number of days by random.) |
Yep drop Munich
Prague has some wonderful parks on both sides of the river and especially on the west bank to the north. Prague also has some fine art deco along with the gothic. Budapest is fine enough around the castle area, though I find the place is more about its small town shops and restaurants, well small-like. The land marks, especially the Heroes Monument is nicely crazy while the Spas are worth an investment of time. |
we visited Prague and Budapest in winter and whilst the outside temperatures tend to be cold, the buildings are very well heated, so what you need is good boots and a warm winter coat, [which you will typically leave in the garderobe] and thinner clothes for walking round museums, and galleries.
Have a great trip! |
