I need advice about reservations on train tickets from Salzburg to Prague

After finally purchasing our Salzburg to Prague train tickets (see http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-to-prague.cfm for original thread about ticket buying issues) I need a bit more advice. We purchased the tickets on the Austrian OBB website. We purchased first class for the entire trip but were only able to purchase the reservations for the first leg from Salzburg to Linz. We also haven't printed the tickets yet. We currently have 2 options - pick up at the station - or - print PDF ticket. I have a few questions:

1. Does it matter if we get tickets at station vs as PDF ticket? Beside the link to print as PDF it states "cancellation not possible". That seems to imply if we get them at the station there might be a bit more flexibility. But this does require us to spend a bit of time at the station before boarding.

2. Can we print the tickets at any Austrian train station? We'll be in Brengenz 4 days earlier and could get them then?

3. For the second leg from Linz to Prague we have first class tickets but no reservations. Do they even allow reservations or is it first come/first serve? If reservations are possible what will be the steps to getting the reservations. Could we get them in Bregenz a few days prior when we print the tickets (if that's allowed as discussed in #2 above)?

4. For our trip from Salzburg to Linz we're on train IC 693 in coach 20, seats 23,24,25,26,31,33,35. Are those first class tickets 3 across or in groups of 6 in a room?

5. On the website where we can print tickets we can see the detail. As #4 above mentions we know which train we're on from Salzburg to Linz but there is no mention of a specific train from Linz to Prague. Are we actually booked on a specific train or can we use it on any train on that day?

1. Print your tickets, of course.

>>That seems to imply if we get them at the station there might be a bit more flexibility. << Wrong. You already have an electronic ticket which obviously cannot be cancelled. So, it does not matter whether you get a printed copy out of your own printer or out the printer at the train station.

2. Yes, but print them at home. There is no advantage of printing them at a train station, only disadvantages.

3. If you have not got reservations for the second leg, it is probably a regional train without reservations. Then indeed, first come, first sit.

4. Which type of car have you selected? From the seat numbers, it looks like a car without compartments.

5. Restrictions should be printed on your ticket. Print it and read it carefully.

Is that the 11:35 out of Linz? That's a regional express, unlikely to have reservations, unlikely to need them in first class. Relax!

Traveller - thanks for the advice. For #4 I never actually selected a train, just said we wanted first class from Salzburg to Prague. We'll be OK either way...will just find out the seat layout when we get there.

Thursday - Good advice.
