I Love Berlin
Like New York City and Paris, Berlin is a city I can visit over and over again and never get bored. I have visited Berlin several times over the years but this is the first time I am sharing this progressive and vibrant city with family.
An enjoyable trip to Alexanderplatz reminds me of some of the reasons I love this city. Surrounded by restaurants, shops and beautiful buildings like the Berliner Dom this is a nice area to spend some time on a summer afternoon. We have a few orders of Currywurst before heading up to the 37th floor of the Park Inn. Here we take in spectacular views of the city for only E$3 per person. We lounge around for a few then head back down passing up an offer to take a flying leap of the 37th floor for only E$49. Back in an area of Alexanderplatz I realized I just might have missed my professional calling. Hello, Berlin! Video:http://youtu.be/N9m4H00srfg |
Yes, I love the city as well and for a variety of other reasons.

Yes! I've only been once but I have lists of things I want to do and re-do. Currywurst is at the top!

I never tire of Berlin.

Ja, Schatzi, I too love Berlin!

More Walls To Tear Down
For me, no trip to Berlin would be complete without a visit to the historic portions of the Berlin Wall near the Check Point Charlie area. This area of Berlin the symbolic and somewhat ideological clash point of East and West during “The Cold War” is for most the place where the new Germany got its birth. Indeed, I think it can be said that here was a turning point in world politics and the beginning of the collapse of communism. Today, the area is alive and vibrant with shops, restaurants and bars but I am glad to see that pieces of history remain. Reminders that on our planet there are unfortunately still more walls to tear down. As we leave Berlin, we make one more stop at the Holocaust Memorial. For me, walking through this amazing architectural memorial is a beautiful reminder of the progress of Germany and its citizens. This is just one more reason why I love this city. Amyb, that is so funny - I get my repeat visit this month and currywurst is not even at the bottom of my list!
My #1 priority is to view the Reichstag dome (it was under construction last time we were there) and my second is to make full use of the Museum Pass. (Last time we were on a shoestring budget.) |
