I know its late...but I'm desparate for Oktoberfest help!!!
 

I realize that my friends & I have created a problem for ourselves by booking plane tickets to Munich during Oktoberfest so late in the game, but its better than not going at all! I also understand that alot of folks discourage attending Oktoberfest, but we are set on it. We would naturally love to stay in Munich, but have (of course) found few to no accommodations left (outside of the pricey pricey hotels). I am currently trying to find places outside of Munich, but that is proving itself difficult. Augsburg & Herrsching both appear booked. I am now looking into Wurzburg & Nurnberg...

There are 6 of us. I have been considering 3 doubles vs. 2 triples. I would like private baths. We need about 6 nights. Any suggestions????

I feel as though I've exhausted my search for all types of accommodations, although who knows what I'm missing out on by not being able to read German!

Our budget is roughly up to $100 per person per night.

First check www.hrs.de, use the town names Pfaffenhofen/Ilm, Ingolstadt, Rosenheim, Ebersberg, Buchloe, Aying, Erding, Fürstenfeldbruck, Salzburg.

Post again, should you not find anything. There are more options.

The Holiday Inn Express in Munich/Messe I've heard is a good choice for Oktoberfest, and if you have any points with them, this hotel is currently available for only 5000 pts a night (instead of 15000 pts a night). And it is available during those dates too!

You'll find something if you get out a map and hunt down some nearby towns, then act fast and contact the local tourist office for help. Phone them. Someone will speak English. Tell them you want an apartment for 6. They may even be happy to help you. Try Landsberg. Try Landshut. Try Aschau. All have good train connections. Aschau is near Chiemsee Lake and Ludwig's Castle Herrenchiemsee on a train line with good connections into Munich. I went to Aschau's website (German) and searched for an apt. for 6 for 5 arbitrary days 9/21-26 and got several options. One is this place for 72 Euros/night for six:

I have used the PointBreak option for another hotel, the Intercontinental Bucharest, by buying the Priority Club points.

I'm hesitant to recommend that in this case for the Holiday Inn Munich Messe, because it's likely the availability is going to disappear very quickly. However, I have read of people getting the entire transaction done on the phone - buying the points and booking the room. If that can be done, it's a reasonable option.

Your budget may be a bit unrealistic but where in Augsburg have you looked?

We stayed there during our last trip to Bavaria during the Oktoberfest and were pleased with the accommodations AND the ease of getting to and from Munich.

Have you looked into Regensburg? It is only about 90 minutes away by train and is a pretty nice place to spend a day or two in itself.

We were in Munchen last year for Oktoberfest and found our hotel through Accorhotels.com.

The hotel that had availability was the Ibis City Nord which is close to English Gardens and a 1/2 block to the subway. 10 minutes and we were getting off the subway for the fest.

The place was very clean with bath and a/c plus breakfast. I could not complain about anything. We weren't right downtown but we were a stone's throw away by subway and the price was very reasonable too.
