I know it's been done to death...but..luggage storage on the IC train

I've done a search but could not find the answer!
We will be travelling first class (reserved seats) on an IC train from Rome Termini to La Spezia on Monday.
We were only taking a 18" bag each (for a month) but they really are not big enough....so, I'll take the 18" and my son will take the 24".
Where is the luggage storage on these trains or will this luggage fit overhead if this is available?
In 2001, I seem to remember my friends and I leaving it outside the seating area with a big bike chain keeping the 3 bags together...very chic!

Hi K,

If you are on one of the older trains with compartments, there will be overhead luggage racks that will take the larger suitcase.

On the newer trains with aircraft style seating, there is a luggage area at one end for the larger suitcae and overhead storage for the smaller.

On "traditional" IC trains in Italy (those with separate compartments, which comprises 98% of IC trains), there is very generous overhead luggage storage, suitable for very large suitcases (so large you may not be able to lift over your head). The available space is superior to that in the overhead area of Eurostar Italia trains. Newer, remodelled IC railcars (very few to date, not to La Spezia) are outfitted like the Eurostars.
