In their E mail to me I notice 2 addresses: [email protected], and [email protected]. Telephone #39 06 6988 5318, Fax #39 06 698 73017, or Paolo Parrotta, Uffico Scavi/Excavations office, Fabbrica di San Pietro, 00120 Citta del Vaticano. Hope this information helps. I E mailed them and heard back within 2 weeks. We have reservations for Monday April 25th. Leaving tomorrow for Rome......yahoo! Thank you to everyone for your great information and hand holding.

"I keep getting it sent back wrong address."

When I e-mailed the [email protected] address, I did receive the returned mail reply.

Howeve,r when I e-mailed
[email protected]
I received the e-mail stating,
"Your request is now being processed and we hope it will be our pleasure to inform you of your reservation soon."

Good luck.

Maitaitom: I also received an E mail saying that my request was being processed. I waited about 10 - 14 days and indeed they did grant me a time and date.(and this was when the Pope had just died, so I was very surprised to get an answer so quickly) I am hoping that you will receive confirmation in a timely manner.

I emailed our request for mid-May tours at the end of February and just got the confirmation this Monday, 4/18. I sent them a couple of reminders--not sure that helped any and was all set to call this week but the email came just in time.

Thanks readysetgo. Me, too. I saw a deal on the popes down in San Diego last year where they had a little history regarding the excavations. It looks really interesting. Have a great trip and looking forward to your observations.

I requested a reservation for the end of July way back in January. It took two emails but I got the reservation. We had to pay up front to confirm the reservation. There was a deadline for payment. I've heard this is the best thing to do in Rome.

I emailed for Scavi tours on July 14 and 13 days later received an email with the date of Oct 1 as we requested. The email gave a reference number with the instructions to pay within 20 days by email or fax. I chose to fax my credit card number(emailing my credit card did not seem secure) Will I receive a confirmation of payment or should I print the emailed page with my reference number to present to the tour guide? (When I faxed my credit card info I mistakenly gave my telephone number instead of my fax number so the Vatican office would not be able to send a fax back to me) Thanks for your answer--I am afraid I created a problem and may not have the proper documents to be eligible for this tour.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Once they receive your payment, I think you are put on the list. If you present the original reservation you received, the one with their reference number, it will get you past the Swiss Guards, and in the Ufficio Scavi, they'll have your name on the list.

To Richard: e-mail them again and tell them about the mistake and then wait till you get there and pay in person. I saw plenty people on my tour paying on the spot.

I'll like to share a story on Scavi tour payment: I had to cancel paid Scavi tour reservations back in Nov 2001. I didn't even asked for the money back as it was in the midst of a very personal loss and my mind was nowhere near this type of thing. In Feb 2003, I was able to do the trip and got my reservations for the Scavi. This time I resolved to pay once I got there. On the scheduled day/time, when I approached the Scavi Tour office the man stated that the tour was already paid for: they were honoring the tour payment I had made back in 2001. Talk about integrity on customer service. Quite impressive. BTW, the tour is fantastic.

I did a "reply" email about my mistake but since they have my credit card number and exp date on the fax, I presume they will take payment. I will watch for the charge to come through. They must have an enormous about of papers to deal with but must keep meticulous records to know about your cancellation--very impressive. I am so excited we received the confirmation.

Fairger--I hope someone will answer your question with a few details because I have not heard after faxing my info either.

We recently attended the Scavi tour end of June. We did not receive any final confirmation after we sent in our faxed credit card info. I was concerned about not having a final confirmation, but everything was fine with the reservation.

Fairger-
I went in June and emailed my payment as well. I received an email confirmation about a week later.

I have also just sent an e-mail requesting a reservation - specifying a date, but not a time. What are the times of the tours and should I re-send with a time preference?

travelfly--- the reservations will specify the time. I wouldn't specify one to them if in fact you can be open.

Travelfly: The tours are offered pretty well all day long; tours in Italian and English seem to overlap -- an English tour goes in about a half-hour after an Italian one, but the two do not "collide" at any point.

Sending in a time reduces your chances; if any time on the date you have indicated would suit you, then I suggest you leave things as they are.

I would not specify a certain time, that time might not be available in English.

I did receive an email receipt indicating that they had received my credit card information (which I had faxed). I don't understand the people who say they will wait and pay when they get there. I wasn't given this choice. My reservation clearly states that if I don't pay by credit card within 20 days, the reservation will be cancelled.

RichardJ, I am also going on Oct 1, at 9:15 am. What time is your tour? Maybe I'll see you there!

Susan P--Our tour on Oct 1 is 2:15pm. That would be quite a coincidence if we were at the same time. Did you put your email address on the fax you sent with your credit card?
