Jerry, I am exhausted from reading all of these sarcastic, negative people. In a time where we all need to ban together and help our neighbors, I am certain that you were not expecting to get "be-littled" from the comments that you had about your experience in Paris. I thought that this is a web site where people can give you good advice. There is really no reason for all of you out there with little reguard for others feelings to make someone feel bad. Shame on you all.

Jerry; New York City is one of the top destinations in the world, too, and do you think that the ticket sellers there speak French? They barely speak English! Come on, guy, use your head. I imagine that you went down into the Metro and started asking the ticket seller there how to get here or there? Bad idee'! Next time, buy a Metro Pass while still in the states; it comes with a map: study the map! Don't depend on ticket sellers to guide your vacation. Would you do that at home? It's a shame that you were ill prepared because it was you alone who messed up your own trip. Try to take responsibility for it and go back to Paris---give yourself another chance only this time:--be prepared. Remember the Boy Scout motto?

Can anyone actually be surprised that some Americans do not have a good time in Paris, and why should they; French is the nation's language, the food is much more elaborate than the simple American hamburger, and anything in Paris that isn't American is foreign. Unfortunately, it seems that Americans can only enjoy themselves if they stay secluded in their own wonderful little country.

I realise this message has been around for some time, but having been to Paris as part of our tour and believing what I had heard about the locals being rude etc I have to say that I cannot wait to go back, it was a wonderful part of our tour. The people we came across both in restaurants, shopping areas and transport could not have been more helpful even if they could not speak english. I really think you should have at least learnt the necessary french words to get you through a basic conversation. We found just trying to speak French showed the local people that we were prepared even if we were not that good at it! You really should go back but do some homework first!

I went to Paris solo last year for 10 days with only plane reservations and a confirmed hotel room, along with several guide books. I don't remember the entire time meeting a rude person! Yes, I speak French, but isn't that part of the enjoyment of going, to have fun with the language and the people who speak it? I can't believe the fellow Americans I saw who didn't even take the time to learn BASIC words/phrases. It's such a great city, rich in culture and history that could be enjoyed even more if travelers made the language part of their visit!!!

It's a GREAT city-learn some French-the natives will respond in English anyway but be overwhelmed that you made the effort to speak THEIR language.

Go Back and enjoy!!
