I found my airfare cheaper!

Darn - I bought my tickets for my May trip in January - today the fare is $130 per person cheaper - on Delta - do you think I have any chance fo a refund or credit? Exact same flights!

jamikins Feb 24th, 2009 08:14 AM

Oh I hate that! Once I've bought my airfare I stop looking just in case this happens!

You could call the airline and ask...the worst they can say is no...

CarolA Feb 24th, 2009 08:28 AM

No,

Delta charges you the change fee. On domestic that's $150. I think on International it's more. So your "savings" have to be gearter then the change fee to get a credit.

oldeire Feb 24th, 2009 09:08 AM

HI - just wondered how much your tickets were? I'm also going in May & mine are $809 (tax, etc. all included). Want to share your cost with us? Thanks, oldeire

Well my trip is going to be an open jaw trip Atl to Ath and return from Ist to Atl. Fares had been running around $1400, I "pulled the trigger" at around $1100, now it is just below $1000. Oh well, I was pretty happy with $1100n not exactly a bargain but I wanted exact dates and decent flights.

I know how you feel...misery loves company too! I booked my air back in September for a RT Philadelphia to Rome. They hadn't dropped below $700 for a year and one night while searching I found them for $550 with a stop in DC both ways. Today I could book my flight for $490 non-stop!! I haven't seen that flight that cheap in a couple of years. I should stop looking, but curiousity gets the best of me.

greg Feb 24th, 2009 11:18 AM

I also found that this week, the flight I have been looking, but have not yet bought, for an August trip to France is now $300 less than a week ago on Delta. While I welcome a fare decrease, this probably indicates that the demand is also dropping. So I may be getting a cheaper ticket at face value, Delta can cancel my flight at the last minutes due low insufficient demand and could offer me lousy alternatives.

suec1 Feb 24th, 2009 11:25 AM

Sorry Greg, I don't quite understand - are you thinking you will NOT buy the ticket at the reduced fare? Are you going to wait until closer to flight date to purchase the ticket, tho it might be more expensive?

Aramis Feb 27th, 2009 02:05 PM

The fare is so cheap you are afraid to grab it because your flight might get cancelled ot changed?
Thats pretty darn pessimistic, Greg.

WillTravel Feb 27th, 2009 02:32 PM

Anyone can experience a major flight change. The price you pay for the ticket has nothing to do with whether the airline decides to cancel and reschedule flights.

FrankS Feb 27th, 2009 02:54 PM

Airlines have some incredible prices for May right now, I see Delta has a 472 RT Chicago to Munich

greg Feb 27th, 2009 07:59 PM

The fare for the flight I have been looking at went down $200 further since Tuesday.

I saw that the price dropped for my ticket on United to Moscow after I bought it. I called and United is sending me a voucher for the difference.

luvlimoncello, it sounds like your itin might be on United. If you bought it from United I am pretty sure you can get a voucher for the difference.

luvlimoncello Feb 28th, 2009 04:56 AM

Thanks mrwunrfl, I bought it through Expedia, does anyone know if a voucher may still be possible? Towards the end of this past week, they dropped even lower!!

panecott Feb 28th, 2009 05:51 AM

I just posted this on another thread. I booked NY to Rome yesterday on Delta for $376 RT total for late April. Earlier in the week I was seeing $516 NY to Rome on Continental.

Expedia had several options in the low $400 range for the same time period.

FrankS Feb 28th, 2009 06:17 AM

$376 to Rome in April!! And its not a Pheonix in August or Moscow in Feb type rate, thats a deal. What a great time of year to go to Italy!

Panecott, On behalf of bargain hunting travellers throughout the world I award you the 'Deal of the Day' award

panecott Feb 28th, 2009 09:27 AM

Thanks, Frank. I'm pretty pleased myself! :-) And it's a non-stop, leaving JFK at 5:30 and arriving in Rome at 8:30 a.m. Good return times too.

Expedia is still showing great fares, starting at $389 for my travel dates, 4/16-4/28.

luvlimoncello, I don't know the answer but I would check with Expedia if I were you. Good luck.

I jumped on a fare for July --Cleveland-Paris/London-Cleveland--This week, with taxes, it was $350 dollars cheaper than last week---and I have been watching for over a month. I jumped on it! Who knows where the fares will go from here? I'd rather know I got a bit of a bargain than miss out all together!
