I am panicking - Leave for Paris next Wed still no hotels booked
 

Hi everyone:

Thanks for sharing so much information on this board. I have been reading through them a lot. However, I need your kind help now. I am leaving for Paris next Wed. and am still looking for hotel...

The reason I got into this jam is because as of the end of last week, hubby still has a customer meeting that he can't get out of, I thought we were not be able to go. Well, 2 days ago, he suddenly said that we could go, which sent me into the frenzie of searching for hotels.

We will be in France for 11 days, first 3 days in Alps and last 8 days in Paris. I need a room from 10/1-10/9. I tried priceline (Latin Quarter 4* only) and no luck. There seems to have something going on in Paris during that time, hotels are more expensive and many are booked.

I narrowed down to the 6th and Marais and will consider 5th and 7th. I am looking for a nice, clean, convenient hotel. I have read through a gazillion of posts on this topic, but frankly it's just overwhelming. Can someone please find the kindness in your heart and throw out some names? My budget is EUR 150. Thanks in advance!

Some time ago I was in the same situation and finally managed to get a reservation in Hotel Du Lys in the Latin Quarter. They have limited internet presence so that worked in my favor. The room was OK (read not great and quite small) and the location was great. It should be within your budget.

You might try Hotel Lenox on rue de le universitie..an name change from rue Jacob or hotel Deux cintinents on rue Jacob. Both are in your price range and both are lovely and the best location IMO

Did you try Venere.com? I plugged in your dates and there are hotels available in all of the areas you mentioned and within your price range.

Also try Parisby.com and http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/cont_recherche.php.

Also, not sure you can ever get a 4 star hotel at that price at any time. So, you might want to retry 3 star.

These are not 4 stars, but in case you need to downgrade the stars...

I have stayed at Grand Hotel des Balcons, below your price range but in the 6th, between Odeon metro and Lux Gardens. the location is great. A couple doors away is the Hotel delavigne (sp). I think it is a step up so probably closer to 150 euro. I haven't stayed there but have heard nice things about it and the lobby area looked really nice (not always a good indicator of the rooms but...). Closer to the Lux. Garden was Odeon Michelet - again, never stayed there but the looked in the lobby.

I just stayed at Hotel Muguet, 125 for a double. It is in the 7th near the Latour-Malborg metro stop. It was very lovely. We had a view the Invalides dome. The room was recently remodeled and very nice - great bathroom!

You guys are so great! I have tears in my eyes for how quickly you are here to help! This is our first trip to Paris (Europe for that matter), although we are pretty well traveled elsewhere, planning the whole trip on such short notice is just too stressful.

chicagolori - I will check out Venere.com. The reason I have not tried is because I thought many independently operated hotels are not on there. But thanks for the reminder.

I am dashing off to try out some of the other hotels mentioned here, thanks again guys and will report back shortly.

Venere books independantly run hotels. Also, go to frommers (dont tell fodors) to their paris hotel list. They give you a list you can sort by area and links to each ones website. You cant book there but it gives you another source of hotels to check.

Try www.ratestogo.com it seems there are many hotels available for your dates.

I would start contacting hotels directly rather than using general hotel booking websites.

Here's a charming 3-star on St Mich in the Latin Quarter that we liked:

I'll give you a fail safe option in Ibis Hotels. These hotels are very basic (think Motel 6 level of comfort) but they are all over Paris (and sometimes in convenient locations). I did a quick search and. while the best locations were full, found several avaiable for your dates. These hotels all cost 99 euros a night or less, but none could be considered charming; they are basic accommodations. If all else fails, you might look at these, but I think yuo will be able to find a hotel, just perhaps not through Priceline.

If you want a little more than an Ibis, also try the other Accor brands -

Not sure about availability but we stayed right on St. Germain Blvd. (6th arr.) at St. Thomas D'Aquin Hotel. It was a great 2 star hotel and it was $150/ night. Just google the name and you will find their website.

I meant to say right Off St. Germain Blvd. The hotel is just 1-2 blocks away on a residential street.

Try lastminute.com--they specialize in late reservations.

September and October are VERY busy months in Paris because of trade and fashion shows.

Did a quick check and the Hotel Edouard VI in the 6th seems to work for your dates and price range. It has good reviews on TA. I've not seen it myself.
www.reservation_francehotels.com seemed to have good internet rates or google the hotel's website.

Hotel du Champ de Mars...it's pretty popular on here, and generally requires advance reservations, but sometimes folks get lucky last minute. It's cute and charming, although does have the smaller rooms that are normal in Europe. I plan on staying there during any return trips to Paris.
