Leely I enjoyed reading your report from your solo trip back in 09, and I enjoyed every bit of it, as I am getting ready to do my very first solo journey I couldn't help but to put me in your shoes, great walks and food you had...aaahhh I want to get lost in Paris too and I am bringing my old little camera to accompany me :-) I cant wait to experience some of the things you did... I will back to report not as eloquent as you did but to help other fodorites as well.. thanks again :-)

@jelopez33 Luxembourg Gardens are first on my list since my apartment is like two blocks from it and plan on going as soon as I arrive there... also the walking is my fun so yes!!!! a lot of walking is on my list too... thank you for suggesting the patisserie...yummy... Merci |
@ticalinda1969 I'm in Paris on and off: I'd say half there, half in the netherlands. I travel back and forth a lot. We have an apartment there and part of my business (photography) is there.

Bon voyage, ticalinda! Enjoy Paris and the freedom to do exactly as you wish when you wish on your vacation. As for traveling and not speaking French, I can well understand how that can be intimidating, but remember that pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone is a big accomplishment.

@ menachem...how lucky you are! I think I am going to start travel now that my kids are growing older...I want to some day be able to go to the Netherlands too :-)...dont go away, I might need your advise again!

I totally LOVED Paris! best experience EVER!!! Travelling alone allowed me to do as much and I wanted and saved by walking every where. I visited 19 out of the 25 "Fodor's 25 best (sights and experiences) Paris", the only place I couldnt walk to due to the distance was to Versailles, other than that, the walking allowed to see most of central Paris... I took about 934 pictures!

Could you tell us quickly...please...did you have a favorite museum? Did you like your hotel? Did you enjoy dining out alone? Was there any one particular place that you felt comfortable or not? Did you think think Paris was pretty? |

Thank you guys, I am so glad I did this trip alone, I visited all the paces I wanted and took my time, walked a lot and dranks LOTS of wine.. he he
@ Leely2, I loved the d'Orsay and the Branly museums, I thought the Centre Georges Pompidou was not my cup of tea, too weird for me.. LOL I rented a studio in the Saint Germain des pres and it was PERFECT! Cooked my breakfast and made my lunch sandwich to go and I ate out every night. My favorite restaurant which by the way was around the corner of the studio was the "Les editeurs" awesome food! and eating alone was very comfortable, lots of people do it and saw it every night... Paris is AWESOME... going again next year for TWO weeks :-) I hope that helped a little but I will write a report when I have more time... Thank you all :-) Viri |
Editeurs is nice, great you should have found it. And I love Branly too, especially some of the "music boxes" upstairs, although so much of it is French colonial guilt mediated by Levi-Strauss.

You did it!!!! Sounds like you did have a wonderful trip. Do you have the web site info for your apartment? I am reading everybody's posts to gather information for my first trip to Europe since my husband died and am considering staying in Paris for 3 to 4 weeks. (inspired too by tdk320) We always rented a car and just hit the road exploring at our own pace. Loved the countryside and stayed in major cities just a few days each.
