I am confused about which Greek island to use as a base. Could somebody help me?
 

I am planning a trip to Greece, Italy, and Southern France. I have been getting mixed messages from my friends about which Greek island to use as my base for the Cyclades. At first I thought Mykonos because it's close to Athens and Delos (I'm interested in the Greek ruins). I have been told that Mykonos is touristy and not the best choice. Then I thought Santorini, but it looks like it's a long way from Athens. Hydra looks nice, but I don't know much about it. What are your favorite choices? This is my first trip to Greece.

It depends somewhat on how long you'll be there, how many nights you want to spend on how many islands. It's not that easy to get from one to other at it looks on a map. You can take a day-trip from Mykonos to Paros, from Mykonos to Delos. I think Mykonos is great, and I'm not into night life and partying. When are you going? <BR> <BR>Think of the different islands as traveling from state to state here, but with water in the middle. It's an effort to get from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, or from New York to Washington, DC. Not much different there. I just want to go to Athens to see the ruins; I plan on staying about 5 days. <BR> I think I saw another post that flights between Santorini and Athens are around 22,000 Drachma.
