Hypogeum - Malta
 

I've left things too late to book and wasn't able to get Hypogeum tickets for my upcoming trips.

My guide book mentions that you can arrive in the morning to see if there are stand by tickets - has anyone had luck with this option, or was anyone able to get tickets through a third party?

We are going in May and were surprised to find out that the day we wanted was already sold out. I believe they have 8 timeslots per day for visits and limit them to 10 persons per slot. I believe I read that the only timeslot to standby is the one at noon.

We were a week in Malta a couple of years ago. I think it was the second day of our stay when we went to the Historical Museum in Valletta and booked tickets to Hypogeum. The first possible day was the day or two just before we left back home. So, when you are there, make that the first thing you do. Go to the Historical Museum and book tickets. If you stay a week, you might get them, if less, you might not.

Hypogeum is really something.

I would ask your hotel to call for tickets as soon as you arrive on Malta. According to Hypogeum web site there are no tours at noon. It's the Archeology Museum in Valletta that sells tickets.

The Hypogeum was a great experience. Good luck getting tickets.

Yes you are correct that no tickets are available for noon. I believe that that timeslot is exclusively for standbys. I don't know the procedure to standby though.

Hello again.

We just returned from our trip to Malta and Sicily and we visited the Hypogeum. The visit there was definitely worthwhile. I suggest booking a ticket ahead of time (if possible.) When we visited on Friday, May 15th, there was a sign posted that indicated that the Hypogeum was fully booked until June 2nd. (Almost 3 weeks out.)

Regarding the standby option, there is a sign posted outside the Hypogeum that states:

"Heritage Malta. An extra tour at 12:00 (noon) is available daily at a fixed price of euro 20.00 per person. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis and can be bought from National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta or the Museum of Archaeology in Victoria - Gozo only one day before the visit. Please note that only ten tickets are available for the noon tour."

I hope this helps anyone interested in going to the Hypogeum. Also, I believe we paid 9.66 euro each to visit the Hypogeum by booking in advance, but an employee at the nearby Tarxien Temples advised us that the prices for all Heritage Malta sites were going up starting next week. He advised that our Hypogeum admission (booked online in advance) was going up from 9.66 euro to 20 euro per visitor. I suspect the standby option price may increase as well, but I didn't think to ask about it at the time.
