hydrofoil to greek islands HELP?

Hi we are traveling from Athens to Mykonos on 14th july
and Mykonos to Santorini on the 19th july and are wanting to catch the
fast ferry.
I think my travel agent is trying to rip me off
he quoted me $150 AUD Athens to Mykonos & $110 AUD Mykonos to santorini
per person.(sounds a bit steep to me)
would it be cheaper to buy the tickets when we are there?
is availability a problem?
any advice would be great thanks

You can see for yourself the rate for the Mykonos-Santorini catamaran on http://www.ferries.gr/hfd/default.htm, €38 in economy, and €57 in business class.

For Athens-Mykonos, there are a variety of ferries leaving from Rafina and Piraeus. There are no hydrofoils, but a choice of conventional car ferries, car-carrying catamarans, and passenger-only catamarans. From the airport, Rafina is quickest to reach, and has the most sailings to Mykonos.

If you are already in Athens, though, consider Blue Star Ithaki from Piraeus. It's a modern conventional ferry, and you can sit on deck taking in the scenery as you sail out of Piraeus and call at Syros and Tinos enroute to Mykonos. :-)

Thanks Heimdall,
I had a look at the link you gave me but
we are leaving for Mykonos on the 14th july
wich is a Tuesday.Hellenic dont seem to go to Mykonos on Tuesdays.(as far as i can see)
Is it harder to travel to the islands on a Tuesday??
Thanks for your advice

Actually, Tuesday is a very good day to travel on the ferries. Here are the Rafina departures curently scheduled for 14th July: http://tinyurl.com/qwkc5h. Click "MORE" at the bottom of the page, and it will bring up the Piraeus departures as well. Those ferries with the company code MF are Hellenic Seaways. :-)

One common misconception to correct: The flying dolphins don't make the run between Santorini and Mykonos.

Catamarans do: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_0gvEq2iy8bs/Ru...0/DSCF4043.JPG

I used my Lonely Planet guide books for Greece ( and Turkey) and they were astonishingly !!!! accurate (and informative) for getting around the Greek islands and for all info regarding the different ferries catamarans etc. . I couldn't have managed without them.
