Hvar - Worth a Day Trip

My wife and I will be staying in Trogir for a week in May. I have heard a lot about Hvar and was wondering if it was worth a daytrip. I gather the ferry takes from 1-2 hours from Split so a fair bit of time would be spent commuting.

Any thoughts from the experts?

Hvar is definitely worth a daytrip. A beautiful island that boasts of most hours of sunshine per year than any other place in Croatia.
The heady smell of lavender is everywhere as the island is covered in it.
I would go for a meal in restaurant "Macondo" alone. Ecxellent food, not to be missed.

Citadel (fortress) on the hill above is worth visiting for spectacular view of the island below.

Teddybear
Can you give me directions on where I'd find Macondo it sounds like just the place for lunch.

Thanks

Hi,
Restaurant "Macondo" is just of the main square, near "Hectorovic Palace" (a large unfinished Gothic-Venetian palace - can't miss it).
Just ask the locals if you feel unsure, they'll point you to the direction of the restaurant.

Not sure how busy it will be in May, but it would be wise to make a reservation to avoid disappointment:

Have fun!

Forgot to say that if you take catamaran from Split to Hvar your journey will be 1h exactly.

Macondo was still only serving dinner last year I visited.

I'm going to Croatia in May and we're trying to get to Hvar from Dubrovnik and have heard about the hydrofoil, but can't seem to find it online. Is it faster than the ferry? Could someone provide a link for the hydrofoil?

Alternatively, does someone know a sailing company that would do a charter one way from Dubrovnik to Hvar?

terydaa,

There are lots of yacht charter places in Croatia. Just Google, or try this link:

Have a great trip!

you should be able to make reservations when you get there, most likely for the next night - or when you arrive get a phoe card and call their number - I have a email of theirs at work - I'll post it tomorrow

Maybe try this website - they maybe able to give you a lead (though I emailed them once and never heard from them)
http://www.hvar.hr/

According to gastronaut.hr they don't seem to have an email.

Restoran MACONDO, Hvar
vlasnik: Nikša Bariši?
adresa: Groda, 21450 Hvar
telefon: (021) 742850

I have also found that certain Croatian website close down for the season. Maybe try the Croatian Tourism Board - they may have the Hvar Tourism Board email and they might know....
