Hurrricane Dennis Pounding Florida Fodorites

My prayers and thoughts are with our fellow travelers in Northwest Florida and South Alabama.

Hurricane Dennis is closing in on the Florida Gulf Coast with huge waves and high wind. It is a very dangerous storm and is zeroing in on a region still patching up damage from a hurricane 10 months ago.
Projections show it coming ashore within two hours near Pensacola with sustained winds of 145 mph.

Most people decided not to leave and are hunkered down with sandbags, generators and boarded up windows. Many have roofs still not fixed from last year's storm.

My thoughts and prayers are also with those of you in the path of Hurricane Dennis.
So much to bear after Ivan last year. I live in the south Miami area and went through Andrew, so I know full well how awful it can be. Good luck to all of you.

It is a terrible situation. I think it is either the strongest or one of the strongest storms to ever hit this area. Very unusual to have such a strong storm this early in the season.

My thoughts are will all who could be affected by this storm. Stay safe, and let us know you are OK after it's over.

Yes, please report in when you can.

Power is out in Pensacola and water has been turned off to many areas. Last contact with relatives indicated that many trees were weakened by last year's storm and are starting to go down.

Pensacola, Navarre, and Ft. Walton are taking the worst of Dennis right now.

We are located about 120 miles north of Mobile, and are in the center of the projected path.

According to the Weather Channel, we should get heavy rain and tropical storm strength winds in a few hours, but nothing compared to what the coast is getting.

Stay safe, everybody.

I spoke to my aunt J. who lives in Fort Walton earlier, and they were hunkering down in her daughter's house-last year during Ivan they did the same.

They say lightening never strikes the same place twice, wish the same could be said of hurricanes!.

To all you folks in the path of Dennis-hope you get through this one safely.

Stay safe and dry down there!

Once these storms come on land and cause severe damage to costal areas, these storms can also generate severe thunderstorms as they track inland as well.

Those of us in the bordering states can receive severe thunderstorms, even isolated tornadoes and huge amounts of rain!

Stay safe and dry!!
