Alexander Lobrano, the European correspondent for Gourmet ,wrote this witty, charming
guide to his personal selection of the city's 102 best restaurants.
A must for any food lover.

Cigalechanta, agree completely. I used it to help me pick out restaurants for our recent trip to Paris--where we were lucky enough to meet you in person. Has anyone posted about the GTGs or done their trip reports yet? I hope to finally get around to doing mine next week. Trust the rest of your trip was wonderful. Julie

Now I don't feel so guilty for not starting my trip report yet. I was really happy to meet you, Mimi, and Julie, and everyone else at the GTGs in Paris.

Dina4, if we are talking about restaurants, I want to mention Les Fous d'En Face, which is a delightful restaurant on Rue de Rivoli, near Hotel de Ville, opposite where they have a marche on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. The food was really good and the atmosphere delightful. Better hurry though, because the owner has sold the restaurant and will be out in July.

Other recommendations will be in my trip report, whenever I can get that started, also hopefully next week.

Does this book concentrate on more expensive options or does it give some tips on lower cost restos as well. Thanks. Look forward to reading. We leave in 4 weeks.

Mimi, I am sorry I didn't read this book more throughly before I left. Though the only meal I wasn't happy with was Le Regelade and that had more to do with the service than the meal. Ah, well there is always next time.

Grandot, the last trip to Paris I was alone and spent the first night I went to Les Fous d'en face as it was only steps away from my hotel. I dined on the heated porch (it was Feb.)
when desert came, my server asked me to join his French friends inside for a sing-a-long. There was an accordian player who post out sheets with the lyrics. I didn't get home til after 1:am. It turned into a party.

RobynFrance, I found the book to have a full range of places from a price perspective, from Au du Falafel, to Taillevant, with a large moderate middle.

If you want lots of info about places on the low end of the scale price but not taste wise, you might want to check out Clothilde's Edible Adventures in Paris. She seems to have more recommendations for place that fit that price point. As a result, however, she also seems to have more recommendations for places in the less tourist-frequented arrondissements. She also keeps a sharp eye out for places where vegetarians will find lots of options.

One thing I forgot to mention about "Hungry for Paris", one of the most interesting parts of the book is at the end where he lists a number of places chronically seen on "Best of Paris Dining" lists and explains why they aren't among his 102 selected bests. It takes guts to skewer some of these sacred cows but he lets fly.
