Hungary/what to buy?

My husband left yesterday for Hungary on a business trip. He will return Friday. As he always asks what I'd like as a 'remembrance', can anyone suggest a lovely gift from Hungary?
Thanks!

If your husband is a military fan I recomend you to buy articles of the soviet red army. Like hats, medals etc..
You cabn finded on the streets (Vaci Utca)

Please write if I can help further.

I tried to post earlier, but think things were haywire on the Forum.

When I went to Budapest last year, I brought back prints and hand-carved chess sets from street vendors in the pedestrian square. For nicer gifts, beautiful pieces of Herend china and Hungarian wines in hand-blown bottles. All of the gifts went over well with my family and friends.

jj, my husband and I were in Hungary in 1999 and we bought some really beautiful hand painted wooden eggs.Sadly I don't have any info on their significance in Hungarian folk lore, if any, but they are truly beautiful, small thereby being easy to carry and they were everywhere in Budapest.

The large state-run handcrafts store on Vaci Utca has many beautiful things. I bought hand-painted eggs (both wooden and real ones) to hang on the Christmas tree.

Hello,

I suggest these:
-porcelain: "Hollosi" or "Herendi"
-embroidery!!
-folk-clothing, the traditional embroidered women's blouses are especially nice
-paprika
-any kind of Hungarian T-shirt
-a good picture-book of Hungary (maybe in English)
-CD-s with either folk-music on them, or popular Hungarian music
-Pick salamis are very, very good, (if you can get them through customs)
-Marcipan- you'll probably eat all of them in a day though

The eggs were easter-eggs by the way. I have to go now, there is a class starting in this computer lab.

If your furnishings at home allow the strong reds, you might well like the tablecloths and place mats in traditional style.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to Europe

I know by now your husband is back, but for others traveling to Budapest soon, I found a stumbled on a great store on Vaci Utca 14 called Folkart Centrum. I bought great black pottery made in Nadudvar, Hungary... very cheap. other shopping on this street isn't very original (mostly stores and items I can find at home). enjoy...
