Hummel factory

Does anyone know what city in Germany that the Hummel factory is and if it's open to the public?

I can think of at least 3 companies called Hummel. A internet search reveals even more. Could you narrow it down?

I mean the Goebel Hummel collectible figurine factory

The factory is in Rödental, northern Bavaria, near Coburg. See www.goebel.de

Myriam is right. My wife and I visited the Goebel "museum" in Rodental last year.

The staff were very nice, but the museum is really more of a marketing device. Very few of the pieces had any accompanying narrative information (in German, English or any other language), and my wife estimated the oldest pieces were only from the 1970's. Also, about the half the displays were devoted to non-Hummel products.

They had a nice shop across the street and all visitors received a small ceramic medallion with one of Sister Hummels drawings on it. I don't recall an entrance fee being charged.

The most interesting thing was the lobby full of little old German ladies that had brought their figurines to the factory to have them repaired. It was kind of sad to watch these women cradle Hummels that had probably been in their possession for 50 years like they were little puppies or something.

The town of Rodental has little to offer other than the factor. The best place to stay in the region is Bamberg, which is outstanding.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the tips.

I forgot to mention that the "museum" has a room where you can watch some very bored looking artisans paint figurines. I found that to be the most interesting part of the visit because they had figurines in all stages of development lying on the tables. If you're a Hummel enthusiast (like my wife) it's worth the time.
