Are you going by car or train? How much do you want to spend a night?

we are renting a car, and would like to spend about 80 (if that is possible). and would prefer not to stay in a large city. thanks

Check page 409 in Fodor's 2002.
We recently stayed at La Treille Muscate which is in Cliousclat ( between Lyon and Avignon). Wonderful, quaint hillside village overlooking the Rhone Valley. We paid 112 euros for the largest room with the largest balcony (and the last of 12 rooms that night). We also enjoyed our evening meal.

excerpted from an answer to a similar question. I have made many subsequent reference to this place since, without repeating the website address.

Author: Rex ([email protected])
Date: 03/23/2001, 04:21 pm

Message: My favorite reply to a question like this - - www.chateauxandcountry.com/chateaux/longsard - - about 30 minutes north of Lyon. Does that count?

It's a real working vignoble/domaine (grows grapes and makes wine - - you don't always find both at a "vineyard" or "winery") and a cool, pre-revolutionary chateau.

Best wishes,

Rex
