How's the weather??
 

Hey, all of the wonderful people from London on the board. We will be coming in a week and a half. How is the weather there? Cool enough during the day for long sleeves? Just trying to plan out the wardrobe.

Probably worth reality checking www.weather.com as well as the anecdotal reports you get here. And remember "Greater" London is nearly 75 miles north-south and east-west. You might get 4 different reports from "Londoners" on the same day.

Kinda why they have weather professionals.

Sorry to not have mentioned checking weather.com. What I wanted was to know if there 70's feels any different than ours in Florida. What I didn't realize is that there would be that great of a variance in temperature throughout London.

I think it's kind of pointless telling someone to check a weather website. It doesn't tell you that much.

Luv2Travel, I am looking out my window right now (Oxford Circus). Some blue sky with big, puffy clouds. No rain (in fact, the parks are so dry the grass is BROWN). Fairly mild and quite sunny when I left for work this morning. I am wearing a black turtleneck and wool mix trousers, pumps with no socks/stockings.

I was quietly contemplating what to do about my fall coat yesterday but I don't feel ready to wear one at the moment.

You would be fine in a t-shirt/cardigan or fleece or whatever.

Post us next week, closer to your departure and I'll tell you EXACTLY what it's like!

Hope you're excited 'cause London is wonderful right now. That sort of dusty, end of summer feel, tourists have gone home. It's great...

I'm going to Berlin this weekend. I have found an excellent webcam which I click on every day, just to see how the sky is looking...!

Hi, the secret is - take layers! When the sun shines and it's sheltered then a T shirt is ok, but there can be a cool wind. Also the evenings are definitely getting cooler. Don't forget your brolly either.

Thanks for posting this Luv2Travel. We'll be arriving in London next week (9/19-23). I've checked weather.com, of course, but, like you, I like to hear how it "feels" outside.

Was is London last week. Found I packed perfectly for the weather. I combination of short and long sleeve cotton shirts with a light jacket was ideal for all days. It was 65-75 the whole week. Of course in a week or so it may be cooler. Take two pair of comfortable walking shoes. We walked a LOT and found it was nice to switch shoes, so that your feet didn't get tired in the same way everyday. Have fun!!!

I found the link that PatrickLondon posted had a feature called something like "the month ahead" on it that forecast the weather for the upcoming month, week by week. It's a little on the technical side, but was still helpful in giving me an idea of what to expect.

See, it wasn't that nutty of a question!! Thank you sooo much for your replies. It really does help. And I will top this again next week for some more advice. One question though, what is a brolly? Wait a minute, is that an umbrella?

Yep, a brolly is an umbrella! Take one of those tiny, light ones that fold up to next to nothing, and you'll feel really smug (and dry) if it starts to rain.
A previous poster mentioned the bbc.co.uk website. I agree that this is really good for forecasts. It has a bit on the homepage where you type in the postcode (ie zip code!) of the place you are staying and it gives you a 5 day forecast of that particular area. It's pretty reliable and might help with temperatures. If it IS warm it won't be humid this time of year - and the days often start out and end feeling quite cool.

You will need your brolly - it rained today. Also, I sat outside last night having a coffee with a friend on Carnaby Street and it was a bit chilly. My turtleneck wasn't enough. A nice jacket would have worked a treat! Will keep you posted...

I hate to bust in on this post, but I also have a weather related question! I'll be in London 9/28-10/4. I'm wondering if it is safe to pack all pants or jeans vs. throwing in a pair or two of shorts??? Is it too chilly for that?? Do I need long sleeved shirts (heavier ones) or will it not be that cold? I have no idea what to expect as it's in the 80's here today which is unusual for us in this part of the US. Any advice? Will I be too casual in jeans with a nice shirt? I will take one dress and about four pairs of my work trousers to wear daily as well since I only have two pairs of jeans that actually fit at this point (that's ANOTHER issue!! Ha, ha). I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks and sorry to butt in on this post!!

Tia, you will NOT be too casual in jeans in London. This is the birthplace of the Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, Oasis, Sex Pistols, to name a few. Everyone wears jeans here. Sometimes people iron them but that's as posh as it gets. Unless you are planning to eat at some of the more fabulous establishments, you will not be treated badly for wearing jeans.

As for the weather, I wouldn't bring shorts. I really don't think it will be warm enough for that. You're starting to look at rainy weather, albeit we have been having a drought here.

Hi Tia, I agree with Ally - no shorts! We do foten get a spell of nice warm weather in September but not 'shorts' weather. And it is chilly first thing in the morning and at night.
By the way - I thought Oasis were a Manchester group?

I stand corrected Morgana!! They are indeed a Manchester group (but they live in London and I guess I was talking more about the UK as a whole). My point was more that no one will be committing style suicide in London for wearing jeans. It always amazes me that people think Europeans aren't slobby. I always notice when people ARE dressed gorgeously in London - it is such a rarity. Having said that, this place is great for casual chic. I have heard that even Karl Lagerfeld comes to London to see what people are wearing streetside...
