How would you suggest we break up our trip?

We are planning on going to Italy for our honeymoon at the beginning of May, flying in and out of Rome. We are planning on going to Sorrento, then Rome and Tuscany (or Umbria). Sorrento is our first stop then should we do rome or do tuscany? How many days should we spend in each? We are going to be there for 10 nights and 3 of them are planned for Sorrento, just need to break up the others. Also would you suggest going to Umbria instead of Tuscany since it is closer to Rome. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Are you renting a car? Then it really doesn't matter much...and you can do villages in both Tuscany (for example Monteriggioni, Siena, Chiusi) and Umbria (Orvieto, Perugia) if you've got a car, daytripping from one location. Personally, we saved Rome for last on our three-week trip a couple years ago. We were very comfortable with our basic Italian, and with menus, etc by the time we got to Rome. I think it wasn't as overwhelming as a big city might have been otherwise. I'd save Rome for last. Congratulations, and have a wonderful honeymoon!

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Many years ago, my honeymoon was spent in Europe in April and May, and it was such a beautiful time to travel...flowers blooming everywhere.

If Sorrento is your first stop for three nights, then you can spend four nights in Tuscany/Umbria and end with three nights in Rome.

You could either train or drive to Tuscany and possibly spend one day in Florence. Then drive back to Rome, drop off the car and spend three nights there. You don't want a car in Rome...

However, since Rome is such a terrific city, four nights there and three in Tuscany would be my preference.

I know time is short when planning a wedding, but if you do a little research on Rome and Tuscany, it should help you decide where you need more time.

Good Luck.

Hi missy,

I suggest that you spend two nights in Naples (visit Pompeii from Naples) on your way from Sorrento to Rome, and the rest of your stay in Rome, where you can see Orvieto.

You can drive Florence/Tuscany on another trip.

I don't recommend driving in a foreign country for the first time on a honeymoon, even if you are very much in love.

Congratultions.
