how will the dollar........in Ireland?

having little or no currency exchange acumen...if i reserved BnBs for ..say 40 euros in July ,can i still expect to pay 40 euros upon arrival? thank you for your help

Of course, currency exchange doesn't make any difference to prices within a country ... of course most places will put up their prices once a year or so, but it would be bizarre to do it in the middle of the season.

Ireland is one of the most beautiful and friendliest countries in Europe. The people are so hospitable. Unfortunately, it is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. I think that you will be hard pressed to find a 40 euro B&B. Bring lots of $$$$$$$.

Yes, but your 40 euro room may cost more in $ term come July, depending on what happens to US$ rate against euro. It's been hitting record lows repeatedly, currently standing at around $1.56 to the euro.
You can 'lock' the value of euro against $ by buying euro now. If you want to do this, the best way is to contact B&B and ask if you can prepay with a credit card now. Don't buy cash euro in a bank as it will give you a poorer rate and a commission on top.

€40 per room sounds suspiciously low. Are you sure that it's not €40 per person?

Padraig Mar 14th, 2008 05:42 AM

I read it as €40 per person, as B&Bs normally give price per person sharing. For a room (even with single occupancy) that rate would be abnormally low.

yes friends it is 40 euros per person -sorry for not stipulating ,and i do have confirmations on all the bnbs but wasn't sure if the proprietors could or would raise the costs due to the enemic dollar.

Do you think people with a small business in Ireland countryside can be affected,up to the point of rising their prices, for the weak dollar ? :) Take it easy and enjoy Ireland !! ;)

One B&B owner where we will be staying (3 weeks from today!!) specifically said she was keeping her prices the same this year BECAUSE of the lousy dollar.

If I run a B&B in Ireland, and most of my visitors are from the US, and my advanced booking is below last year, I would be lowering my price, not raising it.
