How we're faring in Sarlat

I was quite worried about the weather but it has been better than anticipated. The first few days were nice. We arrived on Thu and didn't do much but walk around town. Since Fri morning was okay and the forecast was not, we went canoeing in the morning and it was great. Afternoon in Domme and the weather held up.

Sat, of course, the market all morning in the SUN. And while our luck held, afternoon to Les Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac, quite lovely.

Sunday was rainy most of the day so we decided to stay underground, Le Thot then Lascaux II. On our way back, the sun appeared , so we stopped at Forte de Reignac.

Today was supposed to rain all day BUT, lucky again. A very full day, starting at La Roque Gageac, then Beynac and the castle, and then to Chateau des Milandes just in time for the falconry show. As SOON as it finished, the sky opened and we toured the Chateau until we could walk rather than swim to the car. Now the sun is back out!

All of which is to say, the weather is variable and we will continue to be....flexible.

My new favorite food is the nougat I bought at the market.

Only tomorrow left before we go to Figeac.

Glad you're having a good time. Those of us who live here are feeling really fed up with the weather - tonight we lit a fire. Highly unusual in June.

Enjoy FIgeac we really like it. Be sure to check out Champollion and the replica of the Rosetta Stone. One of our favourite places.

In mid-July we are actually going to a baptism in the gardens of Eyrignac. Apparently there is one mass there a year, and since it fit the time of the baptism, we'll be attending the open air mass. Hoping it isn't still raining then.

Glad to hear the weather has not dampened your spirits! It sounds as if you have enjoyed the Sarlat area. I will be eager to read your Figeac report. Figeac is on my radar for my next trip.

Carlux, I will make note of your recommendations, also. Thanks.

Sounds like you're enjoying the Dordogne - who wouldn't? Glad to hear it, Alice.

Figeac is a wonderful place!

As of this moment, it looks like we will also have rain in Figeac. I am hoping we can get a break to see Rocamadour without an umbrella and maybe without cloudy skies.

Thanks for the report. I am sorry the weather hasn't been better. We are arriving on the 24th so am hoping it clears by then. Also thanks for reminding me about Chateau des Milandes which wasn't open when we were there in March. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I hope you see some sun.

Making notes on all that is the Dordogne for Sept. I'll bet you can get some stunning photos of Sarlat in the rain at night when the streets are all shiny----I'm a cup half full kind of person!

Alice and others----Which is your favorite bakery in Sarlat? We'll be staying there a week so plan on lots of baugettes and pastry for breakfast.

Looking forward to your take on Rocamadour.

Thanks for posting....Sarlat is on my top 2 list for our upcoming trip.

There is a good boulangerie on Rue Gambetta, the top end of Rue de la Republique. Just past the Hotel de la Madeleine, on the opposite side. Two best patisseries are Mertz, and Decaix, about half way down Rue de la Republique. You cant miss their displays. Plus other bakeries tucked away down the side streets.

So, going to Figeac tomorrow - if it's sunny we might go straight to Rocamadour. If the weather is iffy (rain then sun then rain....), what's a good itinerary?

Alice

It poured earlier but has been gorgeous since around four.
