How "travginny" morphed into "Giny"

I've been a regular poster on this board for a few years now. Recently, Fodor's asked me for my password and I just couldn't remember it. So I typed in my screen name where required, hoping that Fodor's would send me my current password or a new one.

After several attempts with no reply, I emailed Fodor's asking for a new password. Still no reply from them. I then realized that the only way to get back on the board was to register again under a new screen name.

I'm happy to be back, but I've lost a lot of information stored under the name "travginny".

Has this happened to any of you?

giny

Hi giny, in the back of my address book there are some blank pages. I write down the password & other info as I know I would never remember the info after several months go by. I suggest that you do this also so in the future you don't have this problem.
Life is so complicated...take care!

I put travginny in the search box. It came up with a bunch of threads that included posts from you, but becasue the search function isn't very good, I knew it was a very incomplete list. so I went to one of these threads, found a message you'd posted, and clicked on your name which was in blue in the "author" space. That brought me to a longer and more complete list of threads you'd posted on, and the url near the top of the page (in address line) changed. Then I highlighted the url with my mouse, then went to the "edit" function in the strip at the top of my screen and whn a box opened up after i clicked on the wrod "edit," I clicked on the option "copy." Then I went back to thgis thread, hit reply to open a screen to reply to you, went to edit again and chose "paste," wrote the rest of my mesage, and posted it. ('Tis magic!)

cmt: I'm impressed! So all is not lost.

As loveltaly suggested, I've made a note of my new password.

Thanks for your help.

No reason not to be "impressed" with cmt... always helpful here.

But if you had simply clicked on "giny", you would see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...ame=giny&fid=2 in your URL line. I don't want to sound rude, but it isn't exactly rocket science to think... hmmm... if I simply edit "giny" to "travginny" (orr any other name) it would produce all of your posts (for that name or any other name you edited it, to seek out).

Forgive me if that sounds too condescending.

Best wushes,

Rex

Rex: It may be obvious to you, but it wasn't to me.

Thank you for the "wushes".

I could not figure out a better way to say this, sf...

My point was that cmt made it sound more difficult than it needs to be. There was no need to "search on" the user name - - simply edit the URL line from a "click on" anybody's name.
