Some great sources for rail travel in Europe and passes which if you do even a fraction of the countries you may find a good deal for wide-ranging travels: www.seat61.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com - download their free online European Planning & Rail Guide for lots of suggested rail itineraries (http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/id2.html).

I'm with ira on this one.
My son and two friends did a big graduation trip. They did a lot of research themselves. They used guidebooks and the internet. Their research included looking at prices of hostels, trains, entrance fees, etc. They also found their own airfares.
They stayed in hostels and airbnb places and found they needed a budget much more than yours. Yours is just not realistic.

My daughter spent a month in Germany in December 2010 (her graduation). She spent $1600. $800 airfare, $800 -food, travel, activities. She stayed at her girlfriend's apartment and parents house so her lodging was free.

I don't think the OP is a troll, she is just a typical young, first time traveler who is making a typical rookie mistake in trying to do too much on one trip.
To the OP--you have a lifetime to explore Europe. Please do not ruin this trip by taking on too much. If you will scale back your plan then we will be happy to help you plan your trip.

Well a guide book would have to be on couchsurfing and surviving on stale day-old baked goods.
And how do you couchsurf if there are 2 of you? One on the sofa and one on the floor?
This is just a total trainwreck.
The OP and friend need to do at least some basic research - to understand how impossible their plan is.

Really though...this is all the economic sense they have as college graduates? That is scarey that they will be out on their own soon, thinking they can survive on $25/day. I'm on the trolling side with this one. Just sayin...

There is no way you could survive in a major city in the US for $25 - how can they imagine it can be done in europe - which is generally about 1/3 more expensive - except for Switz and Scand - which is WAY more.
They need to do some research!!!
(This is one of the scariest posts I have ever seen - assuming it is not a troll - but then it very likely is. Either that or too naive to be out of the house alone.)
