How to Travel From Rome to Interlaken
We have a very agressive Travel plan this summer. From Germany to Paris, London, Rome, and Interlaken in 13 days. We are looking for suggestions on the best way to quickly get from Rome to Interlaken. Any thoughts?

Rome to Milan is about 4.5 hours. Milan to Bern is another 3 hours, not counting any layover. Bern to Interlaken is about 1 hour. It can be done, but it will chew up a day by rail. You'll probably be better of flying from Rome to Bern, then taking the train.

OOPS. Hit the wrong key.
After you arrive in Milan, you wait for 25 minutes and take a train to Spiez, Switzerland. This train goes through the Simplon Tunnel and the Lötschberg Tunnel to Kandersteg and then on to Spiez.
In Spiez you get off and wait for a train to Interlaken.
The whole trip takes about 9.5 hours depending on which connection you select.
The shortest travel time is 9 hours, 9 minutes with 3 changes: Milan, Brig, and Spiez. You leave Rome at 7:30 and get to Milan at 12:00 noon. Then you take the train to Brig and change there for Spiez.
The reason for the change is that the train you would be on is headed for Lausanne and ultimately Geneve.
flying will cost you $800 plus transportation between city center and airports. The time required for the flight itself, once it leaves the gate,is 4 hours. By the time you allow 2 hours from a Rome hotel to the airport, and another hour to get into town from the Bern airport and find a train, and an hour plus to travel from Bern to Interlaken, you would have spent quite a bit, perhaps $600, to save 90 minutes.
Is it worth it?

Actually, there is a faster way to fly: take Easyjet from Rome (Ciampino) to Geneva...takes about 1.5 hours by air...and then take a train to Interlaken. Using Easyjet will not cost you $800, either.
