How to Travel City to City
Traveling to Rome in September (full 7 days/7 nights) but would like to do some overnight travel to Venice and/or Florence. First: Is three cities in seven days too much turmoil? Should we cut it to just one? Second: I recall an email chain about the train you could take from Rome to Venice, which was about 3 hr. trip and included food...does anyone have the name of this? How do you make reservations? Any help would be wonderful - THANKS!

Here is your own post titled "Going from Rome to Venice" from 2 weeks ago. It has answers to some of the questions you are asking now.

Yes, 3 cities in 7 days is a lot.

I suggest you see Florence and skip Venice this trip. You don't really have enough time to see all three in such a short time.
We took the train from Rome to Venice and then Venice to Florence. It is very easy and you can get train tickets when you get to Italy.
Have a wonderful trip. We LOVE Italy!

And I suggest you skipFlorence and see Venice this time.
Actually, I would immediately train to Florence for 3 days, go to Venice for 3 days and return to Rome only to fly home, but that's just me.

If you decide on two of those three cities, I'd do as Ira suggests, skip Florence and see Venice. Florence has fantastic art and great architecture but Venice does too and in addition, it's magical and romantic (and has no cars!)
