How to tell you are in London?
1.Couldn't decide which direction to watch while crossing streets.

2.With so many entertainment programes to choose from, you wish there were 3-4 evenings per day.

3.Pay same amount or more for a snack, but in pound not dollars.

4.Spent a fortune for an afternoon tea even you never drink tea at home.

5.So crowded of tourists everywhere, you wonder where real londoners are!?

Any more?

It's London if Aug 18th, 2002 07:59 PM

You've passed the little dragon statues.... otherwise, you're probably in Westminster.

Answer to question 5:

we're either

at work, playing on Fodor's in our lunch hour or

on a beach somewhere else.

I am wishing I am somewhere else that has sunshine.

Elizabeth Aug 22nd, 2002 09:37 AM

Gina, I am assuming you live in London. :-) I have to tell you that I guess"the grass is always greener on the other side", huh? I was there in June and I LOVE England. ..would move there in a heartbeat if given the chance. People were apologizing for the weather (it was a crisp 68 degress). We had occasional clouds and overcast weather, but we kept saying "Don't apologize!! We LOVE this weather!! It is a nice break from the 90 degree heat that we are facing back in the south!! We would give anything for this weather!!" :-) I guess if you have it all the time, it gets old, but it was a nice break for us considering that it is MISERABLY HOT where we live!! :-)

I agree completely with Elizabeth! The only people more obsessive about the weather than Americans from the Midwest are the English. Where I live we have stunningly hot summers, numbingly cold winters, we may or may not have more than a few days or short weeks of autumn or springtime and each year we have a minimum of 10 or more horrendous storms or blizzards and the occasional tornado thrown in for good measure.

I adore the weather in England which of course stuns my friends in England no end. I LIKE seeing the rain because sometimes where I live we wait 2 or 3 months to see it. the rain is why Britain is so green and lush.

This spring I spent three weeks visiting friends in Great Yarmouth, Cheltenham, and finally London (and, by the way, it never rained once!) I’d never been to England before 1997 and I’ve been at least once a year each year since. I’m a little bit late in life to be making moves but I too would live there in a heartbeat.
Being on the wrong side of the escalator is high crime.
You start mimicking the accent and even start incorporating words like 'bloody' in your vocab.
You suddenly become a theatre buff.
You hear "Wow these buildings are really old" at least once.

bloodyhell Aug 27th, 2002 01:37 PM

I thought 'bloody' went out of our vocabulary in the 1960s? do some of us still use that word?
Its not a 'cool' word anymore! except when used by Michael Caine in The Italian Job : )

yyy Aug 27th, 2002 02:20 PM
